I wanted to share my experience on the 19:04 #LondonKingsCross last night - stuck on the train for 5 hours.
Despite everything, the atmosphere was amazing - people laughing, sharing seats, and really looking out for each other. A genuinely wonderful group of travellers.
But above all, huge thanks to @Hull_Trains staff - train manager, trolley team and others - all reassuring and positive in very difficult circumstances. They must have had aching jaws from smiling apologetically for 5 hours. Water, snacks and going up and down the carriages.
Special mention also to the @LNER handover at Doncaster - getting so many of us home in the early hours (with limited taxis!) was no small feat.
A tough night, but a real reminder of the good in people & teamwork. I hope all the staff gets some well-earned rest soon!
Our new PM @keir_starmer pledged today outside @10DowningStreet that the @UKLabour government would treat “every single person in this country with respect.”
Does that pledge include #Deaf people?
Where was the #BSL interpreter as he addressed the UK public for the first time?
Deaf people have been left in limbo: we still don’t know if there will be a BSL interpreter when @Keir_Starmer gives his first speech.
We have one here ready and waiting – just give us the nod, Kier, and we’ll help make sure your speech is accessible for deaf people.
@UKLabour@DisabilityLab
The UK #Deaf community is desperately hoping that Sir @Keir_Starmer will be standing beside a #BSL interpreter when he addresses the nation for the first time today.
@BDA_Deaf has an interpreter ready and waiting outside No. 10.
Please work with them!

🌟 Happy International Women's Day from the BDA 🌟
Let's celebrate women's achievements, champion inclusion, and uplift each other for a brighter tomorrow.
Investing in women is investing in our shared future and the deaf community. 💪

Hey @WFDeaf_org there is no such thing as neutrality when power or oppression is at play. If you state that you're neutral, you take the side of the oppressor. Human rights aren't pick and mix either, you can't seek to use whilst disregarding other rights. You use public funds.
ALT If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.

“By permitting the UAE to host the next World Congress without highlighting LGBTQIA issues, @WFDeaf_org could be seen to endorse the UAE’s discriminatory and punitive stance” — @BDA_Deaf
Our statement: British Deaf Association voices serious concerns over suitability of the United Arab Emirates to host the next World Federation of the Deaf Congress in 2027 due to country’s anti-LGBTQIA stance.

Dear @BBC,
This is the first year the UK has hosted #Eurovision since #BritishSignLanguage was recognised in law as a language of Great Britain 🇬🇧
Can we make 2023 the year you provide #BSL interpreters so that #Deaf audiences can sing along to #Eurovision2023 too?
🤞🙏🤟
Happy #NationalBSLDay from everyone at #BIDServices 🇬🇧🎉

One year ago, people celebrated in Trafalgar Square as the BSL Act passed into law 🎉
One year on, Minister Pursglove is celebrating our progress implementing the Act.

“What I’ve learned about the Deaf community... it’s a beautiful place.
I wish someone had sat us down and told us when he was 16.”
- @JohnBishop100
It’s so crucial for the families of #Deaf children to learn #BSL & meet Deaf adults. Not try to “fix” their child.
#LifeAndDeaf
Catch new documentary John & Joe Bishop: Life After Deaf tonight at 9pm on ITV (including subtitles), and on ITV Hub for the full BSL signed and subtitled version too
@JohnBishop100 15 minutes in… this is just amazing #lifeafterdeaf I’m learning now in college for my baby boy who is deaf. Thank you for doing this. Please support my campaign for free BSL for parents! change.org/FreeBSL4parents
