This is not as good as you think. (1) The labor force declined by more than employment rose. (2) The labor force participation rate declined. So yes, unemployment declined, but this is also do to labor force exits and declining participation, not a slew of new jobs fir Black men.
The unemployment rate for Black American men, 20 years and over, dropped from 6.9 to 5.5 in February. Is anyone talking about this? bls.gov/news.release/empsit.…

Another incredible presidential panel at #ESS2025 focused on the politics of dissent. Diane Wong, @hebagowayed, and James Jones examined dissent and consent in the current political climate, and how sociologists and academics can dissent to interrupt cycles of oppression.

Had the absolute pleasure of spending several hours with the brilliant @Joyannreid a few weeks ago. Her sharp insight and breadth of knowledge left me in awe—especially her ability to draw prescient historical connections that illuminate the present.

But what impressed me most was what I observed off stage: her kindness, generosity with her time, and unwavering commitment to the communities she centers in her analysis. A true force. #JoyReid

Masks off. This is biological essentialism. This is racist and wrong. RFK Jr.‘s response alone should be disqualifying for an HHS secretary.
"We should not be giving Black people the same vaccine schedule that's given to Whites, because their immune system is better than ours." ---RFK Jr. So what vaccine schedule should I have received? His answer was dangerous. I will be voting no.

I'm no longer moved when Trump says blatantly bigoted stuff. Perhaps white people are, but I'm not. The media is lacking precision. Part of ceding power is surrendering language and allowing meanings to be muddied. "anti-DEI"= muddy "Segregationist"= clear

It is not legal in the US to hire people based on their racial or ethnic background. Affirmative Action primarily means ensuring job postings are widely distributed and reach a broad range of people. This strategy helps you find better candidates.

Commit these words to memory: "Am I being detained or am I free to go?" If any officer of the law stops you, you can always ask if you are free to go.

Tomorrow is the first day of Spring semester. Once again, in my "Introduction to Sociology," I am sharing one of my favorite slides. Even though we are covering a lot of the classics, sociologists are no longer a bunch of old white dudes with beards.

My new piece in @TIME on why people still believe in the disproven vaccine-autism link. Vaccine “injury” suggests autism “recovery” is possible. It’s misinformation that gives families hope. The real problem: being disabled in the US fucking sucks. time.com/7203351/trump-and-r…
