The full UK State Pension is now worth around £12,548 a year. That's less than half the earnings of someone working full-time on the National Minimum Wage, despite many pensioners paying taxes and National Insurance for 40, 50 or even 60 years. Yet every time the Treasury needs money, the same voices appear demanding the Triple Lock be scrapped. Why? State pension spending is forecast at around £154 billion this year, but that supports over 13 million pensioners, many of whom rely on it as their primary income. Meanwhile, billions continue to disappear into failed projects, government waste, bureaucracy, consultants, quangos and policies that deliver little value to ordinary taxpayers. The Triple Lock isn't some gold-plated luxury. It exists because politicians allowed the State Pension to fall behind for decades. Even today, a full State Pension is barely above the poverty line and is nowhere near a typical working wage. If politicians want to save money, start with waste, inefficiency and failed spending programmes. Leave pensioners alone. They worked, they paid in, they built this country and they deserve dignity in retirement, not another raid on their income.

Kenta Kobashi continues to fight a cause close to his heart. He attended a donation presentation ceremony for the Children's Cancer Association of Japan two days ago, presenting the funds alongside Kohei Inoue, President and Representative Director of Fast Fitness Japan. The total donation came to 648,182 yen - money raised across several initiatives. 232,306 yen came from attendee donations at Kobashi's self-produced event Fortune Dream 11 on 16 April. A further 151,000 yen was contributed by Fast Fitness Japan through a pre-match charity squat challenge, calculated at 10 yen per squat performed by fans. The remaining 264,876 yen came from a separate charity golf tournament. The association's Managing Director and Secretary General Yasushi Tanno attended the ceremony, presenting Kobashi and his partners with a letter of appreciation. The cause carries deep personal meaning. Kobashi is himself a cancer survivor, having battled and overcome kidney cancer before his miraculous return to the ring in 2007. His management agency Fortune KK confirmed the work will continue. "Moving forward, we will continue to work alongside Fast Fitness Japan to actively expand our ongoing support activities for children facing pediatric cancer and their families." The fights Kenta Kobashi cares about most are not always the ones inside the ropes. This one, he intends to keep winning.
