Sources: The NCAA has initiated the final steps to expand the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments to 76 teams. The expansion is on track to be formalized in the upcoming weeks, with mid-May as the target. The 76-team tournaments begin next year. espn.com/mens-college-basket…
Congrats to Michigan on a truly excellent tournament run. I appreciate everyone for following along this year. And a big thank you to all my contributors for the best Bracket Matrix season ever.
Thrilled to announce that I have predicted the most accurate bracket projection of all-time per BracketMatrix.com. My projections outperformed ESPN, FOX Sports and more as I correctly predicted each of the 68 teams in the tournament, as well as 61 of their seeds correctly.
Later this week, I’ll have an update to the 5-year rankings and my one bracket guess for the tourney.
Bracketologists: please double-check your matrix score for accuracy.

The highest matrix score prior to this year was 382. 34 people beat that score in this go-around.
The best of them all for 2026 was Antonio Barbetta, who correctly picked all 68 teams and correctly seeded 61 teams. Congratulations!
No surprises from the committee this year in terms of which teams got in, allowing 207 people to correctly predict all 68 teams.
Noteworthy: @SirBurt and @MikeCampagnone have gone 68 for 68 three years in a row.
Before we get to the matrix results, I asked everybody who submitted a bracket yesterday how many teams should play in the NCAA tourney.
48% said leave it at 68. 38% said go back to 64 (likely a result of seeing this season's bubble). Only 10% wanted something larger than 68.
Last update to the matrix before the selection show is now up.
Please note that most brackets were posted prior to the start of today's games. Final matrix and results will be published tomorrow evening.

With that, another season is in the books. Congrats to Florida on an amazing run to the championship!
Thanks again to all the bracketologists for your contributions to the matrix. Special shoutout to @BracketWAG who is hanging it up after this season.
Here's my crazy tournament expansion/reform idea:
What if we had a play-in round with all of the top at-larges and we conducted a draft to determine the matchups?
