When Fr Michael Tate left his post as Australia's Ambassador to the Holy See, he told Pope John Paul II he was going to study for the priesthood. He kept his word. He was ordained in 2000 and served his people in southern Tasmania until the end.
We remember Fr Michael Tate; senator, ambassador, law dean, and parish priest. He came to the priesthood late, but by all accounts, he'd been preparing for it his whole life. Rest in peace.
