“Shamelessly tanking will create a loser culture!” The Flyers culture as a result of them never shamelessly tanking:
They HAVE been trying to increase their chances of drafting high. They've been sellers at every deadline. They've loaded up on draft picks. The team overperformed, as most Torts-coached teams do. They obviously value the culture they are building than they do shamelessly tanking.

7/14 became top 4 or better NHLers. A 50% hit rate on a 1st round pick is good. A 50% hit rate with an alleged hockey flaw (“undersized”) shows that it might not be as grave as hockey men treat it to be.
Outcomes for defencemen smaller than 6'0 (182 cm) taken in the first round between 2005 and 2020

“Hermansson. I had a little bee whisper that maybe [the Flyers] had a good chat with him at the combine. Maybe they like Hermansson.” - @Hockey_Robinson
Mock Draft SZN has arrived on Called Up. @chrismpeters and I go pick-by-pick through the entire 1st round and made our predictions for all 32 selections. Inevitably, we will make some people angry. Enjoy! youtu.be/SwCQRZ5So2U?si=rIO1…

- Very few 1Cs hit the market. - And then a chunk of them will have “various reasons” for not wanting to play in Philly. - And then the remaining players will require a multi-team bidding war, if they ever become available. See how this is an unsustainable rebuild plan?
There is virtually no way –shy of winning the Cup, no taxes, etc.– to create a utopia where literally every player wants to go. There will always be players who choose other places for various reasons. It's not a failure by the Flyers that Larkin doesn't have them in his Top-3.

Crazy fans on Twitter warned how difficult it would be to acquire a 1C. Beat writers said “Let’s wait and see!” Every few months the crazy fans are further vindicated. The Flyers front office is out of its depth.
Per @HeleneStJames, Dylan Larkin would be willing to waive his Full NMC for these 3 teams. 👀

This was 3 weeks ago. And now the Flyers are operating under the assumption Larkin (rightfully) has no interest in coming here.
We are now taking victory laps because players are allegedly hypothetically “open” to playing for a coach when they hypothetically hit the market. Praise Danny Briere! We have a coach who hypothetical UFAs aren’t categorically refusing to play for, hypothetically!

“Getting better” in this case means maybe winning 7 games in the playoffs instead of 4. That’s what we’re going all-in for?
Replying to @broadburnt
It accomplishes getting better

The Flyers trade for Larkin. We’re still a tier below the Habs, Hurricanes, Lightning, and Sabres. So what exactly is that accomplishing, other than a few extra regular season wins something for fans to slobber over?

“Imagine if the Flyers were to head into next season without Dvorak, too.” This is not a serious hockey organization.
Would a 5-year extension for Dan Vladar be a risk because he's really only had one solid year as a starter? Absolutely. But this narrative that the Tippett/Dvorak/Konecny contracts are bad is silly. Tippett and Dvorak are both signed for under market value (and Briere has left himself wiggle room to move either in the future), while Konecny was again the Flyers' leading scorer this season and helps set the tone off the ice in so many different ways. Feels like some people just make up their minds at the time these deals are signed and never change them despite the results. I didn't love the Dvorak contract at first, either -- but then he finished strong, and a 34-year-old Charlie Coyle signed for 6 x 36. Imagine if the Flyers were to head into next season without Dvorak, too.

This is about a 27 year old winger with a career high of 53 points. If Tippett was on a different team, we’d be laughing at them for talking like this.
The Flyers shouldn't trade Owen Tippett unless they get a massive return broadstreethockey.com/post/t…

The complete opposite. The most casual hockey take is thinking locking up a goaltender is vital.
Bitching about a 5-year extension queued up for Vladar is pure comedy. Guy pieced together the best full season ( playoffs) by a Flyers goalie in over half a decade and still entering his prime. Casual radio guys know best tho! He’s not “the guy” because of the Canes series 😭

If anything I’m pretty troubled seeing Danny make several moves that are all too similar to the organizational philosophy that has caused us to be laughably irrelevant for so long

Can’t stop rewatching this. Actually in disbelief at how stupid this take is. If fan sentiment about one of the franchise’s key rebuild prospects will drive his teammates to hate him, uh, I don’t think that’s the fans’ fault. Charlie’s brain has been broken by Twitter.

The story is never about how the Flyers are doing something stupid. The story is about how the crazy fans on Twitter are angry that the Flyers are doing something stupid.

The allegedly small, vocal minority on Twitter is also allegedly responsible for the narratives around Michkov. Not Tocchet’s deployment of him. Or Tocchet’s endless comments about his conditioning. Or beat writers writing jabbing pieces about him. It’s the fans fault!

A great IQ test is if someone mentions how “the Flyers finally have a goalie.” Goaltending is the most replaceable position in hockey. If you follow the sport outside of Flyers broadcasts, this is an obvious reality.
I think you can really weed out the casual Flyers fans vs the die hards based off their opinion of the Vladar contract situation. Love the guy had a great year but you can’t just hand him 5 years based off a single season. Flyers have already backed themselves into a corner

“The scouts know these players more than angry fans on Twitter do” “It’s way too early to judge. Give it a few decades”
“Danny Briere” and “Brent Flahr” chose Jett Juchanko, aka Jebediah LuStanko, over this demon btw

Danny Briere said he was impressed by Rick Tocchet as a coach. He added that several agents have told him their clients would play for Tocchet. Flyers players spoke highly of him. All that’s left is to convert the doubters. My story from @OnPattison: onpattison.com/sports/flyers…
