I love this self description. It’s honest. No followers by choice. It’s sort of the opposite of an incel, which, of course, are involuntary celibate. I have deep respect for someone who can admit it’s not involuntary.

Former @AP’er @bsfarrington with a heartbreaking anecdote about management refusing to allow him to take two days off to see his father before he died.
How drastically have things changed at @AP? In February 2020, before the COVID shutdown, I asked for a Friday and Monday off during the legislative session to see my dying father. They said no, I was too critical for our Florida Statehouse coverage. I never got to say goodbye to my father in person. This year, AP decided they don’t need anyone in Tallahassee at all, not during session and apparently not ever. My 27 years at AP were mostly wonderful. Now, it’s just sad to see how upper management is destroying one of the most important news organizations in or our country’s history.

Both episodes in this story are appalling.

Both parts of this put @AP in a horrendous light. Journalists sacrifice so much for our work

Thanks to the vast majority of you who sent supportive messages. To the very few of you who said shitty things, I fell sorry for you but I’m willing to chat if it gives you a better perspective on life. And for those of you who are just about hate, fuck you with the kindest regards and when you get your shit together and start being kind, I will give you a hug.

As a retired journalist, I’m available to cover all special sessions. Hahahahahaha! Just kidding. Have fun, Gary.
Tallahassee special session update ... as in there still isn't one. House & Senate is telling members there is no deal yet on budget allocations so there will no need for them to go to town before April 20 - the scheduled start date of the redistricting special session ...

Innocence Mission. I had free tickets. Loved them. But a friend convinced me to do something else that night. It’s why I don’t make new friends 30 years later.
What’s a concert you didn’t go to — and still regret missing?

Nice to know the Florida Legislature is wrapping up tomorrow and won’t be back till next year. That’s what’s happening, right? Right?

Grateful to @AlexWorkman and Chelsea Workman for their excellent photography, as well as Colin Hackey for his photos. I continue to enjoy working with the great @BSFarrington, who handled several of the features in this edition.

Who’s more famous? President Trump or President Obama? Your pick is my answer.
Who is the most famous person you have ever met?

I still cringe every time I see @AP ask for online donations.
