Noticeable trap inconsistency at Sunderland today, with Trap 1 opening late.
Trap 1 was the 13/8 favourite, yet punters did not receive a fair run for their money.
According to the GBGB, this is acceptable under Rule 123 as long as the traps are fully open when the hare is approximately 11 metres ahead of the highest handicap trap — with any impact left solely to the discretion of the local stewards.
Concerns remain that this approach does not adequately ensure consistent, fair starts in handicap racing.
