Now that the new M5 Vision Pro has been out for a few months, it's a good excuse to resurface something I built last year: Containment Unit. A spatial computing immersive experience where you summon procedural lifeforms into your room. 🎧

even taking the same setup to something like VCV rack doesn’t quite inspire me the same way. something about the tactile sensory focus of hands-on exploration makes a deep flow state easier to find

I tried a bunch of different scales, from copilot completions to cursor to one-shot, and it always was a net time loss. some of the React work was close, but still required so much cleanup it was a wash. shader debugging esp was a nightmare

Ernst Chladni was a German physicist and musician, often called "the father of acoustics." In the late 18th century, he developed a technique that made sound visible: he sprinkled sand on metal plates and bowed them with a violin bow. The sand migrated to the nodal lines revealing geometric patterns now known as Chladni figures. In 1808 when Napoleon saw the demonstration and was so impressed he offered a prize for the best mathematical explanation. Sophie Germain, a self-taught French mathematician was the only entrant who got the approach right - though her solution had some flaws. She became the first woman to win a prize from the Paris Academy of Sciences for her work on elasticity theory. The math describing Chladni figures later showed up in quantum mechanics when Schrödinger used similar mathematics to describe electron orbitals.

nothing better than a client who lets me off the leash for R D, without flinching at dead ends. last year @lovedotdotdash sent me exploring visual directions for @LKGGlass holo displays. one fail kept nagging at me, so I developed it a bit further with sound. @fx_hash_ maybe?

I remember the first Oculus Connect, with Michael Abrash doing the keynote, trying out Crescent Bay. was a hugely inspiring event and point in time..
The 10th Anniversary of the launch of the Oculus Rift is coming up this Saturday, and we at SVVR are throwing a party for those in the XR industry who live in the SF Bay Area! Come hang out with OGs who built Rift and devs who made games for it! luma.com/x3it4inb
