Interested in Audre Lorde’s philosophy of education, ecological politics, & why Lorde isn't a proto-TERF? Please read this open access interview I did with Alexis Pauline Gumbs. I added a bunch of explanatory footnotes, and Alexis is amazing as always. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Came here to share Audre Lorde's wisdom

ALT Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade "no ticket" scene, except the Nazi says "Relax, we'll just change the system from within" and when Indy punches him out of the zeppelin, he says "He tried to use the master's tools to dismantle the master's house"

I'm going to this for sure, and you should too. Helen is such a treasured voice, and has been a lovely interlocutor in my work on Audre Lorde

I'm breaking my Twitter fast to share this for friends and admirers of Helen De Cruz (formerly @helenreflects on here). She been a shining light in our field for so long. This looks like a wonderful way to celebrate her life.

Excited to hear and support this research!! We need more complex, multi-directional analysis of Black feminist left internationalism, anti colonial struggles, and their legacies
On the way to Hamburg to present our work with @DurdiyevaSelbi, taking a look at Angela Davis’ approach to the USSR from the perspectives of societies affected by russian-soviet imperialism. Our paper calls for epistemic reparations and opens complex debates that we need to have

"Putting yourself on the line is like killing a piece of yourself…” Excited to present this work at SPEP in October, with Andrea Dionne Warmack. If you don't know Andrea's work, look it up! Her compelling framework of "afro-skepticism" pushes back against afro-pessimism

Audre Lorde when Berlin students tell her passion in German (Leidenschaft) shares a root with suffering: Now, isnt that interesting! And here you have this crazy Black lesbian poet coming here saying the only way yr gonna survive is living passionately. Living openly IS painful!

This is what it looks like when you're a lesser Dutch master from the 1630s and you've never actually seen a real dog in your life.

Audre Lorde: You'll be paid well not to feel, not to scrutinize your differences. Paid in insularity, poisonous creature comforts, false securities, in the spurious belief that the midnight knock will always be on somebody else’s door. But there is no separate survival!

Note that the threat of the midnight knock isn't merely a rhetorical flourish for Lorde. In her early 20s under McCarthyism, her roommate’s mother was deported to Poland bc she had been in the Communist Party & FBI came knocking at Lorde’s door in 1957. Lorde was 23.

Black history is every month, but it's moving to stumble across this picture of WWI soldiers returning to NYC in February 1919, with raised fists in the air The image is in the US National Archive (for now at least) catalog.archives.gov/id/2643…

If you are a bay area Cedric Robinson scholar or work with his writing closely, please get in touch. I would love to talk to you about his arguments in Terms of Order and possibly across some of his other texts.
In May, I will be hosting a Political Theory workshop commemorating 50 years since Cedric Robinson walked the halls of Stanford Political Science. I hope to see you there! I welcome any suggestions as we prepare for this conversation in the department. politicalscience.stanford.ed…

Haven't been here much (I'm calebw at 🔵) but every time I drop in I'm depressed to see rly smart ppl totally captured by responding to the worst takes you've ever heard from the same 10-15 discourse-setters on here. "I've seen the best minds of my generation destroyed by..."
