Attending the Colibri Ferry Conference reminds me why I’m passionate about transforming ferries in BC. Inspiring to see similar plans for passenger-only ferry service are already happening in the U.S. Great ferry service is driven by the communities they serves.

You have to love Alaskan barges. They look like something out of a dystopia future.

Over the past 25 years, as new passenger-only ferry services have come online in Puget Sound, the Washington State Ferry system has steadily carried fewer and fewer commuters. Car ferries for the cars, people ferries for the people. It just makes sense.

Amongst captaining and running a business and homeschooling, America’s first female tugboat captain “is fondly remembered for her talent playing the piano and was known to have upright pianos aboard each tug”. Incredible! (Also suddenly feeling very unproductive with my life!)

No BC bingo card is complete without a ride along with Uchuck III, offering daily freight service through historic Nootka Sound. Epic send off from the dock. ⁦⁦Thanks @GetWestAdv

As the practicalities of renewing Washington State Ferries' car ferry fleet sink in, a coastal transportation network supplemented by passenger-only ferries is a natural choice. Nice articulation of that idea found here. kitsapsun.com/story/opinion/… via @kitsapsun

Car ferries & passenger-only ferries each have their own distinct strengths and weaknesses. Resilient transportation means having options. We don't need one or the other. We need both!

Is it time for a bridges vs ferries webinar debate? Coming soon from @glferries. Stay tuned.
the thing about lower mainland residents going "WE NEED A BRIDGE" whenever there are problems with b.c. ferries is that many islanders would sooner separate and become canada's 11th province than accept a fixed link
