Under Donald Trump, prices are rising faster than paychecks.

This is corruption in plain sight.

Trump says he “loves inflation.” Sacramentans do not.   My constituents are paying more for rent, utilities, and groceries because of Trump's reckless tariffs and war with Iran.    But this is exactly what Trump’s economy is meant to deliver — higher costs for hard-working families already stretched too thin.

Yet again, Trump is refusing to answer for the complete disaster he created. He doesn’t care that Americans are paying the price for his reckless war with Iran, and neither do Republicans in Congress.

On Kamameha Day, we honor King Kamameha's life and legacy. This Sunday, we came together to celebrate King Kamehameha's leadership and his unification of the Hawaiian islands with a beautiful lei draping ceremony here at the U.S. Capitol!

President Trump made it his mission to dismantle the Department of Education. He fired half of its workforce. He took away funding for Minority Serving Institutions. Now, House Republicans are attempting to cut education funding by an additional $8 billion. Shameful.

King Kamehameha was a fearless leader who united the Hawaiian Islands under the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. Today, we celebrate his legacy, his role in shaping Hawaiʻi’s cultural heritage and the rich history of the Native Hawaiian community.

The Iran War has cost American households $100 billion, that’s $750 per family. Gas is up 50%. Groceries are spiking. Inflation is at a 3-year high. And Congressional Republicans want to give another blank check to ICE to the tune of $70B. Western New York families are paying the price.

In February, DHS abandoned Nurul Amin Shah Alam, who was nearly blind, outside a closed coffee shop in freezing temperatures. He was found dead days later. With limited English proficiency, he was never meaningfully informed of what was happening or given the opportunity to contact his family or attorney. Language access could have saved his life. That’s why I’m a proud cosponsor of @RepTimKennedy’s DHS Release Transparency Act, which will require DHS to provide translation and interpretation services to detainees in their custody. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and humanity.

Honored to take part in the annual King Kamehameha lei draping ceremony in the Capitol Visitor Center. King Kamehameha I’s final words, “Continue the good work that I have done, for it is not yet finished,” remain a call to action as Native Hawaiian rights and sovereignty face renewed attacks. No matter what threats we face, we will continue fighting to protect our people, our history, and our future.

The people harmed by this xenophobic and racist policy weren’t those trying to cheat the system. They were the people who followed every rule, submitted every document, and paid every fee they were required to. Judge McConnell’s ruling is an important reminder that @DHSgov and @SecMullinDHS seem to always forget: the government cannot simply pick and choose which laws it gets to enforce just because they want to force their own discriminatory political agendas.

AANHPI workers with limited English proficiency are nearly twice as likely to earn lower wages than English speakers. By rolling back language assistance resources, Trump is hurting millions of Americans who are simply trying to make a living and contribute to this nation.
