Yesterday, Social Security Commissioner Bisignano tried to gaslight us and told Congress that wait times at the SSA are way down. Thanks to @repjudychu, who stood up for retirees and set the record straight.

Republicans claim Social Security phone wait times are down to 5 minutes. But that's because SSA counts people who request a callback as having waited zero minutes. Yesterday in @WaysMeansCmte, I asked the SSA Commissioner how long callers actually wait before speaking to someone about their benefits. He couldn't say. Americans deserve the truth. SSA is masking the damage Trump's staffing cuts have done to customer service.

Yet again, Trump is refusing to answer for the complete disaster he created. He doesn’t care that Americans are paying the price for his reckless war with Iran, and neither do Republicans in Congress.

#SmokeAdvisory: Angeles National Forest firefighters are continuing prescribed fire operations in Tanbark Flats today, June 10. If conditions allow, the project will continue through June 13. Smoke may be visible in the San Gabriel Valley, especially in the foothill communities of Glendora, San Dimas, and La Verne. Prescribed fires reduce overgrown vegetation to protect communities, infrastructure, and natural resources from wildfires.

Today on #FosterYouthShadowDay26, I was excited to welcome Jo Harlan, a remarkable young leader and @NFYInstitute delegate. She told me about her experiences in foster care and the unique challenges she and other youth face. Her passion for improving access to education and healthcare for older foster youth was inspiring, and I will continue to push for legislation like my Foster Youth Postsecondary Education Access and Success Act and my Increasing Access to Foster Care Through Age 21 Act so all youth have the support needed to thrive.

Inflation crossed 4% in May for the first time in 3 years. It's up from 2.4% in February before the war with Iran. Americans are paying more for gas, groceries, housing, and basic necessities and Trump and Republicans are letting it happen. Seems like Trump was being honest when he said he doesn’t think about Americans' financial situations.

Prices are up for gas, groceries, health care, and housing - and families are hurting. But instead of addressing this cost-of-living crisis, Republicans are choosing to dump $70 billion more for ICE and Trump's immigration agencies without enforcing any basic standards and accountability. It's shameful. That’s why @HouseBudgetDems and I are voting NO on the Secure America Act.

In February, DHS abandoned Nurul Amin Shah Alam, who was nearly blind, outside a closed coffee shop in freezing temperatures. He was found dead days later. With limited English proficiency, he was never meaningfully informed of what was happening or given the opportunity to contact his family or attorney. Language access could have saved his life. That’s why I’m a proud cosponsor of @RepTimKennedy’s DHS Release Transparency Act, which will require DHS to provide translation and interpretation services to detainees in their custody. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and humanity.
