You can either live guided by your one unique self-expression, or by the hustle for your worth and status in someone else’s game. You cannot do both.

I often hide my accomplishments, skills and abilities because I fear I’ll be objectified, meme-ified or otherwise turned into inspiration porn by abled people. So I hide and play small. But I’m done doing that. The world needs more stories of disabled thriving, not fewer.

When “disability” is used as a neutral term, it ceases to be something to overcome. Disabled people don’t overcome their disabilities anymore than Abled people overcome their height or eye color. These are all just facts about our bodies. There’s literally nothing to overcome.

When I say my taste in music is eclectic, what I mean is that my gym playlist just went from the Teletubbies main theme in Spanish, to David Guetta, to Bach.

Dear Abled people, your proximity to disabled people does not give you permission to ask other disabled people about their disability. The only disability-related question you should ask is “What are your access needs?”, and only if you are in a position to provide accessibility.

Mental illness is disability, and mental health professionals should be adept at identifying ableism. Ableism is the source of shame and stigma around mental illness. We can’t combat a system of oppression that we aren’t naming.

Treating disabled people like they’re inherently inspiring is objectifying and dehumanizing. Kindly, get your own inspiration. 🥰

As a wheelchair user, I want you to know that your kitchen floor is not nearly as level as you think.

People will act like ableism isn’t their problem as though we’re not STILL living in a pandemic that started with people being told that “only disabled and elderly people will die” and them taking that as permission to proceed with life as usual.

Nondisabled people, imma be real with you for a moment: Everything in life is designed to center your needs, this account will not be that.

There are still 2.2m mail ballots to be counted in PA - about 87% of the total. Settle in.

Keep calm. Be patient. Allow local elections officials to do their jobs. What is most important isn’t the speed of the count; it’s that every eligible vote is counted. Americans made their voices heard in record numbers, and their votes must be counted. #Election2020

Think about how many million Americans are voting today peacefully standing next to people they may disagree with politically - it truly is a wonderful thing.

You know what pisses me off? That the super-spreader able-bodied anti-maskers are the ones who will overwhelm our healthcare system AND THEN will get chosen to receive treatment before disabled people who have been doing their part. Fuck that.

Trump compares himself to Abraham Lincoln when Civil War historians compare him to Andrew Johnson who pardoned Confederates, who vetoed the Civil Rights Act of 1866, who opposed Black male suffrage. #Debates2020

Normalize colostomy bags, catheters and diapers in the same way you normalize contact lenses and eye glasses. They are all devices that empower people to engage their lives with fewer barriers. It’s really that simple. #Disability #DisabilityTwitter #disabled #disabilityjustice

A lot of people feigning surprise that people hide their diagnoses after spending an election cycle making fun of someone for not being able to hold a cup. Ableism doesn’t just affect who it’s aimed at. It’s airborne.

Having education, or academic degrees, or pursuing “wokeness” won’t make us immune to the blind spots that we all have in our particular privilege. We can learn about them, and do something about them when we see them, but effective allyship requires understanding that something

is always possibly out of our sight and experience, and that we have to listen to learn from those who don’t experience our same privilege. #disability #disabilityjustice #disabledtwitter
