Step 9 in the fight for democracy is electing leaders who protect us. The FBI raids against Ohio grassroots organizations echo attacks on the right of Black and brown voters to be heard. We must be vigilant about defending our democracy — everywhere for everyone. So we register, engage, and vote. Together, we must protect our rights.
FBI special agents searched an office of a progressive organization in Ohio as part of a Justice Department investigation into its voter registration efforts, three people familiar with the matter tell NBC News. nbcnews.com/politics/justice…

Children can’t vote, but their hunger is real. Yet, once again, Gov. Brian Kemp has refused to help — vetoing funding for summer nutritional assistance. Georgia families are struggling to afford groceries, rent and health care, and this would be a lifeline. During this election season remember that your elected officials should serve you and the needs of your community. If you're in need of assistance, visit: feedinggeorgia.org

🚨 The Supreme Court just let Alabama Republicans change the rules and use a racist congressional map for this year’s midterm elections. It’s time for us to organize, mobilize, and vote like we’ve never voted before!

Our tax dollars should be used to fund care, not cruelty! Our MOMbassador and Maryland member Jean joined our team, @mychal3ts, @staceyabrams, @10stepscampaign, @domesticworkers, and more to head over to Capitol Hill and demand Republicans in Congress reject $70 billion in funding for an out-of-control ICE and Trump's ballroom and instead invest in health care, child care, aging and disability care, food assistance, and lowering costs for families. Read Jean's blog post about her experience, and tell Congress to #FundCareNotICE! momsrising.org/blog/read-bet… #ReconciliationBill

Originally called Decoration Day, Black Americans interred the bodies of fallen Union soldiers to honor their sacrifice — now known as Memorial Day. Decades later, my great-grandfather served our nation in WWI. Then my grandfather took post in WWII and the Korean War. Today and every day, I honor their sacrifice by fighting for rights they were denied in a country they loved, knowing freedom will prevail if we refuse to give up the battle.

This weekend, I joined the @uwomenfaith Assembly in Indianapolis, where I had the honor of meeting Elizabeth Eckford. One of the Little Rock Nine, she bravely integrated an all-white high school in 1957. Her courage advanced the civil rights movement, but almost 70 years later, we find ourselves continuing to fight for equality. Because our freedom is never free — but it is ours to win. All Roads Lead to the South. Tomorrow, May 16. Montgomery and Selma. Join King Center CEO, Dr. Bernice A. King, and many others who are committed to meeting this critical moment for voting rights in the United States with urgency and strategy. Why? The Supreme Court’s recent decision in Louisiana vs. Callais and the immediate reaction of several Southern state legislatures to suppress the votes of Black people the other decisions by the Supreme Court that gutted the Voting Rights Act. We are awake and alert, and committed to restoring strengthening the Voting Rights Act. We must build better. And bold nonviolent strategies and solutions will still work. #AlIRoadsLeadToTheSouth #VotingRights #DayOfAction #MLK #TheKingCenter

Former Georgia House Minority Leader @staceyabrams testifies against Tennessee's new Congressional map, which would eliminate the only Democrat-held seat in the state. "It is a deeply disturbing truth that Memphis, the place where Dr. King gave his life, is being told that your voices are so irrelevant that we will deny you even one voice in Congress, that one voice out of nine is too much for you. That is a very clear signal and it is, I believe, an act of cowardice to deny them that voice."
