青く見える原因はイリドウイルスに感染し、身体が結晶質に変化させられてるから
このウイルスは正二十面体構造をしており、感染が進んで体内で爆増すると、細胞内にウイルスが詰まって結晶格子状に並びます。
その結果、細胞もウィルス粒子によって変形していき、そのせいで光の反射・回折の仕方が変わり、構造色として青く輝くような姿に見えるんです。
つまり、青く見えている個体は感染がかなり進行した末期状態で、彼に残された時間がわずかであることを意味しています

Makes me think, perhaps there's this future where people found a cheaper way to store electricity in organic material instead of minerals, so you can just grow your own batteries. Like, isnt there also bacteria that store electricity?

I would say Ultra is the inbetween Rider & Sentai in term of kiddy/seriousness
In Ultra there's not as much main cast deaths like Rider, but the story usually take itself more seriously than average Sentai's storyline
Ultraman is more about instilling hope in humankind
