On the anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, we remember the 72 people who died and their friends, families and loved ones who continue to seek justice.
We remember also the six people who died at Lakanal House in our borough in 2009, the people who were injured, and the lives that were changed forever.
Southwark Council is deeply aware of the responsibility we have on fire and building safety. We have taken action to make our council homes safe, and it continues to be the top priority of this administration.

We're proud to be a Borough of Sanctuary and to support local organisations like the Southwark Refugee Communities Forum. As part of Refugee Week 2026 (15 to 21 June) The Forum is organising a series of community events under the theme 'Courage'.
This includes:

Introducing your new Mayor of Southwark: Councillor Claire Sheppard.
Cllr Sheppard will already be a familiar face to many, having lived in Nunhead for over 25 years. She is a mum, small business owner, Green Party councillor and community activist. She is well-known locally for founding and running Nunhead Knocks, a group that supported residents across SE15 through the pandemic and beyond into the cost-of-living crisis.
Cllr Sheppard has chosen Westminster House Youth Club (WHYC) and Little Village as her charities for the year. She will also be an advocate for Elect Her, a non-partisan organisation that helps women to find their path in politics.

Iβm very sad to have to say that my mother @FlickRea ,who served with distinction as the Liberal Democrat councillor for Fortune Green ward on Camden Council for 35 years until her retirement in 2021, died early this morning at the age of 88. Sheβd been ill for some time.
