tbh I actually don't understood why describing a romantic relationship as "more than friends" makes some people upset. it literally is more than friends. are you not friends with your romantic partner? doesn't that make your romantic partner friends PLUS romance? aka, more?

I might just be taking it too literally but I don't think "more" in this turn of phrase means "more important", I think it quite literally means "there are more feelings/actions involved here because you can't have a romance without a friendship anyway so romance is an addition"
