An instant classic vs. Keller Central!
Carroll stays undefeated for the month of April, winning their 7th straight game in a 6-5 victory.
Switch hitting catcher Cooper Newby
@CooperNewby44 drove in the tying run in the 5th and the go-ahead run in the 7th in two of the biggest at bats of the year for the Dragons.
Cam Dean
@cd33lefty once again sparked the offense on a 2-for-3 night with 2 runs scored and a walk. Shawn Arterburn
@ShawnArterburn also collected a pair of hits.
Much like Saturday night vs. L.D. Bell, sophomore RHP Cason Austin
@CasonAusti67093 inherited a bases loaded jam and was brilliant, giving up 0 R on 1 H across 2 1/3, punching out 4.
LHP Jackson Smith
@Jackson__Smith1 was credited with the win, pitching a shutout in the 5th and 6th innings with 2 K's. Sophomore Gavin Morris
@Gmorris2028 collected the final 3 outs for the save, including consecutive groundouts that he fielded himself to secure the victory.
For the 4th straight game, Dean led off, reached, and scored in the 1st to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Carroll would tack on 2 more in the 2nd to go up 3-0, before Central put up a 5-spot in the bottom of the inning to stake a 5-3 lead.
A pair of walks, a ground out, and a wild pitch in the 3rd made it 5-4, before Matthew Heredia
@MatthewHeredi16 tripled in the 5th and Newby scored him with a line drive single to tie the game 5 all.
The score would stay knotted until the top of the 7th, when Dean drew a lead-off walk, Gavin Strange
@GavinStrange1 laid down a sac bunt to move him to 2nd, and Newby's two-strike double to the left center gap plated the eventual game winner.
Carroll finishes 4-6A district play with an 8-8 record and concludes its regular season. They now await the outcomes of other district matchups during their bye week to determine their playoff fate.
