for @TheAtlantic, I got bullied by my toddler niece and explored what it means to teach your kids a language you've lost.
The key to teaching kids their heritage language is simple: Expose them to it often. The challenge is how to do that when the parents themselves don’t speak it well, @katchow writes: theatlantic.com/family/archi…

"Efforts to suppress languages other than English were present even in the country’s earliest days....In the U.S., bringing a heritage language back into a family usually comes down to the efforts of individuals." Thank you for sharing our story @TheAtlantic @katchow.

I'm not translating any more books without my name on the cover. Not only is it disrespectful to me, but it is also a disservice to the reader, who should know who chose the words they're going to read.

👏 Being bilingual is not the same as being monolingual in language A monolingual in language B 👏 We are looking for beautiful accents, Spanglish/Chinglish sentences, and heteroglossic linguistic perspectives that reflect our beautiful blended selves! #bilingualism

We are all ordinary people in extraordinary times. What I did isn’t special, it’s the same thing that drives us to volunteer at a homeless shelter or donate to a food bank: the idea that if something is broken, we can work to fix it.
