Labor and human rights groups in India are bringing a Fair Food Program-style model to the sugar industry, hoping to push big brands to sign binding legal agreements to protect workers and adopt humane standards. ciw-online.org/blog/2025/03/…
Following in the model of the @ciw 's @FairFoodProgram we are building towards Worker-driven Social Responsibility (WSR) program at every link in the #sugarindustry supply chain.
We call on every global brand sourcing sugar from India to join in this new partnership and lead the sugar industry towards ensuring fair labor practices throughout the entire supply chain!

Peter Buffett, Co-President, @NoVoFoundation: “The importance of this pivotal moment cannot be overstated. CIW’s transformative model has proven its power to transform the lives of hundreds of thousands of workers in the U.S. and abroad..."
The experience of dairy workers in the #MilkWithDignity program is entirely different than the world outside the program who routinely experience "poor wages, unsafe working conditions, inadequate housing, & discrimination."
This is the difference that WSR makes.
“Out of over 200 migrant dairy workers surveyed in Vermont this year, 77% say they have suffered an accident or injury at work and 87% make lower than the minimum wage"

1st developers commit to @BDC_Standards-a step forward for adapting WSR to the construction industry & protecting more workers' rights.
Congratulations to @CTUL_TC@AllianceHsg@Hope_MN for taking this step to transform an industry known for its abuses!

The contrast between conditions in the #MilkWithDignity program and on farms outside the program is stark.
This is the difference that WSR programs make for workers.
"A survey conducted by Migrant Justice academic researchers showed that, bc VT does not protect the right of farm workers to earn a minimum wage, 87% of the workers surveyed were not making minimum wage, and over a quarter were making less than $10/hr"

It's great to see that Levi's finally signed the International Accord for Pakistan to ensure workers can be safe in their factories. Hopefully, the brand will also soon protect its workers in Bangladesh. sourcingjournal.com/denim/de…
📣Victory!!
After years of campaigning by unions and activists around the world, has signed the International Accord: a binding agreement that will ensure Levi's supplier factories are inspected and made safe. Thank you to everyone who kept the pressure up all these years!
After years of global campaigning, Levi's signed Pakistan @SafetyAccord.
It's a growing consensus: binding, enforceable agreements backed by worker education & organizing w/ independent enforcement mechanisms are the best way to protect people at work.

From the @ShinySheet on the decades-long support Ethel Kennedy had for the @ciw, including marching with farmworkers, with CIW’s Lucas Benitez pushing her in her wheelchair down Worth Ave in Palm Beach.

"Ethel saw the promise in our early efforts to bring brutal farm bosses to justice when no one else did" Benitez told the crowd of > 1000. "Lifting us up from Immokalee's dusty streets to celebrate our efforts in the hallowed halls of the US Senate"
