ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY!
Alexander the Great died in Babylon, 323 BCE, at just 32 years old.
Historians still debate the cause, but it is likely that after conquering much of the world, the man who seemed invincible may simply have been worn down by battle, illness, and excess.
Congratulations to St Winefride’s Catholic Voluntary Academy, our school of the month!
First introducing Latin with Classics for All training in 2021, they’ve expanded into Roman history and etymology. Proof of the transformative power of Classics in schools.
Well done!

Dr Kathryn Tempest recently explored corruption in the Roman Republic with our Lawyers' Group at Twenty Essex. The conversations that followed showed just how relevant it all still feels today!
Welcome, Darren, our South West coordinator!
Darren knows firsthand what it takes to build up classical subjects in schools as a Head of Latin and doctoral researcher.
If you're a SW based teacher and want to join the conversation, get in touch at southwest@classicsforall.org.uk

Millions of ex-pupils remember this line. But, only a fraction of state school pupils get the chance to read Latin. Classics for All is on a mission to change that.

Join us (for the last time this year) for the usual clever conversation, cakes, books and raffle. 😀
There's a resurgence in Latin teaching in state schools thanks to @classicsforall and @ClassicsNorth.
80,000 Latin learners in the past ten years.
That barely brushes the surface of the 1m plus pupils, of course, but the data show that it improves performance across the board.

Very sad to learn from @AnthonyBarnett that Professor Dame Averil Cameron died today. Averil was one of the great historians of late antiquity and Byzantium and reshaped how we understand the transition from Rome to the medieval world. Averil was a formidable scholar and became a good friend; I’m proud to have worked closely with her @OxfordByzantine - and to have helped build a future for our subject @UniofOxford. She will be greatly missed #RIP
