First, we ask that SBTi define permanent CDR as CO₂ remaining out of the atmosphere for at least 1,000 years. CO₂ has an extremely long atmospheric residence: 20 to 30% remains after 1,000 years, and it takes ~500,000 years for complete removal by natural sinks.
