the bull case for nfts.
i have always loved pokemon. around 2018 i started buying packs again. it was like buying a lottery ticket, but with an ip that makes me feel good, and had the potential to go up in value. i would open half, and kept half sealed. i also started to purchase psa 10 slabs on ebay. many that i purchased were selling for less than the price of grading. crypto popularity climbed, my finances improved, and i continued to collect.
fast forward to 2026. we just purchased a new house. i pulled my slabs and sealed collection out of storage. i had been sending stuff to storage for 4 years. we quickly realized we don’t have room for everything.
over the last four weeks i’ve been on a selling journey. listing on marketplaces and finding in-person buyers is work. i ended up selling the majority of my sell pile to people i met at a regional card show. in short, this was a pain. truthfully, the percentage gains were large, but pennies compared to my volume during the 2021 bull run.
when i found nfts in 2017 it slapped me like a car hitting a brick wall. i had been a life long collector. after purchasing my first cryptokitties i very quickly realized i could have the same emotional attachment to a digital collectible as a physical one.
personally, i only look at my psa collection on the app in my inventory. i rarely see it in person. today the hobby is filled with digital collections and gotcha machines. psa will even hold your cards in a vault if you want them to. currently the hobby is shifting to digital emotions.
we have shit founders in crypto, but the technology and mechanics are sound. the moment pokemon puts digital and physical cards on chain the industry changes over night.
people in the major ip and physical collectible worlds should want this. it makes transactions that much easier, generates fees, and prevents fraud!
for four weeks i lived the life of a physical collector and i was instantly reminded why digital collectibles are that much better.
i could go on and on, but i need drive 1.5 hours north to sell the rest of my pile to a card shop.
but also, i did meet some very nice people that traded me 10s i needed for my pc. there’s good people in the collectible world. too bad all the digital collectible world got this cycle was scam meme season.
