I asked Division I coaches: "What non-physical characteristics do you look for in recruits to ensure they'll be a good cultural fit for your program?" Despite representing different schools and conferences, their answers were remarkably similar. 🧵👇

A bad coach tears people down. An average coach focuses only on results. A good coach teaches skills and systems. A great coach builds confidence and trust. An exceptional coach helps people believe in themselves at a higher level. And the best coaches impact lives long after the scoreboard stops mattering.

Great advice from @TimCorbin: 1. "Learn to love your parents more, but depend on them less." 2. "Get off your phone as much as you can." 3. "You don't have to play baseball 12 months out of the year to become a better baseball player." Full interview: ericcressey.com/csp-elite-ba…

Right before this… His son, a Division 1 baseball player, hit a home run out of the stadium against LSU. Made ESPN. On top of the world. Then… slump. 0 for 13. 8 strikeouts. Not even playing. And this was the message: So what. Show up. Have fun. Be a great teammate. Stay ready. Because your opportunity is coming again. That’s what most athletes struggle with. Who are you when things aren’t going your way? Because coaches are always watching that. In the full episode with @JoseRijoBerger1 with @108_Performance , we get into: - how to handle slumps - what coaches actually look for beyond stats - and how to separate yourself as an athlete This episode drops on Thursday. Comment PODCAST and I’ll send it to you when it’s live.

Stop being afraid of bad games. They're going to happen. What are you going to do about it? When you get out, ask yourself one question. Why. Why did I get out. Why was I late. Why did I chase that. You don't need to fix everything. You need to understand what happened. Then take that into your next training session. Not feelings. Not frustration. Not a whole new swing. One thing you understood. One correction. Go attack it. Understand why you got out. Make the correction. Catch barrel after barrel. That's the whole process. You're gonna have bad games. Every hitter on the planet does. The ones who figure it out aren't more talented. They just refuse to waste a bad at-bat. Understand. Correct. Compete. Every single day. Save this. Send this to a hitter who needs it.
