“Each year our technology extends our knowledge farther and farther into the galaxy while our daily lives are lived increasingly under the oppression of a dark sun, our lives shadowed by alienation and distrust.” comment.org/make-your-home-i…

“If materialists are the party of the head and the Romantics are the party of the heart, the religious worldview celebrates both those parts of our nature but also acknowledges the yearnings of the soul.” @DavidBrooks224 on Christopher Beha’s journey. bit.ly/4fB7J59

“I wanted to be the confident, heresy-hunting Augustine, vanquishing the pagans with brilliance, fending off the Manicheans and Pelagians with iron-clad arguments. As a middle-aged man, I dream of being Mr. Rogers.” @james_ka_smith on unknowing. bit.ly/4v4uW4t

“As Thomas Merton observed in the 1960s, language can incubate a hatred for life rather than a love of life, and it can as easily fall victim to war, genocide, and tyranny as people can.” bit.ly/3QbIxrr

I think this has been the grandest stage I've ever shared, here with Angela Duckworth ("Grit") at the Understory Festival in DC last week, talking about my new book. When you're in a physical space like this, it elevates the mind and soul to talk about higher things—you can always feel the upward force, as the eyes turn toward the ceiling and the space between you and the dome makes you feel small and insignificant.

“Art in our time is desperate to be necessary, and it is necessary, but not for the reasons it imagines. Many people now see art as the visualization of an idea that could have been conveyed by more direct means.” comment.org/at-the-edge-of-w…

This was a difficult conversation but one that @matthewkaemingk and I needed to have. Couldn't have been with a better person, despite our disagreements on Israel-Palestine. We spoke to @AriMGordon, director of Muslim-Jewish relations at @AJCGlobal. Enjoy. x.com/Bango2331/status/20637…

I listen to every episode but this one was particularly good. Really appreciate the humility and respect each person brought to the chat, as well as the willingness to grapple with tough questions and explore the answers. @shadihamid #zealotsatthegate open.spotify.com/episode/2Vf…

“Loving language in this era of chatbots, digital scams, and AI hallucinations has meant coming to terms with language’s limits and its deadening, anti-human capacities, but also hewing close to its inexhaustible communicatory flames.” bit.ly/3QbIxrr

“I’ve been seeing a spiritual director, a wise man with an earring and a grey ponytail, twenty years my senior, charming enough he could start his own cult, and wise enough never to do so.” bit.ly/4wv87In

This one’s gonna take a minute for me to process. It still feels like it was all a dream. Probably because it was a dream gig: Immersive projection & visual curation in the Washington National Cathedral (@WNCathedral) for @commentmag's inaugural festival “The Understory”!
