Giving a #SipperForStan - that assumes the citizen in custody has a jail-acquired NEW disability. But Fr Stan Swamy's sipper was taken away @satejp ! Why? On what grounds? Taking away an assistive aid is an assault on individual autonomy and RPDA violation #NoBarriersBehindBars

When assistive aids or reasonable accommodations (adjustments) for daily functioning are not provided in prisons, it further disables a person with disability and is a human rights issue. This disconnect from the actual lived experience of disabled people and their families and inability to distinguish between traditional and medical disabilities means many more are likely to be suffering deprivations in prison where the only assistive aid recognised seems to be spectacles!

Assistive aids are not 1 size fits all - the world of disability is one of diversity. They're often customised to the specific needs of the disabled individual. Separating a disabled person from their assistive product, further limits & disables them robbing them of independence.
