ALT Now, awaiting Muskās latest tweets, I find myself anxious that one of his former employees could be physically assaulted or worse over what the CEO is posting. I donāt know how, in that environment, to make little jokes about Googleās latest failed messaging app, or bad PR pitches, or any of the other bits I have been doing on Twitter forever. I donāt know how to pretend that what is happening is not actually happening. I donāt want to provide, even in the smallest of ways, a respectable backdrop against which hate speech against my fellow LGBTQ people, or Black or Jewish or any other people, can flourish.

No. This is false. I helped to create two different billion-user projects at Apple: WebKit and iPhone. I was on these teams from the earliest stages and I never once came close to sleeping at the office. Itās not an essential part of doing great work.

If nothing else Mastodon is introducing people into the whole Open Source tradition of trying to be enthusiastic about something really bad that doesn't work at all because you don't want to be rude to the maintainers and the thing you really want to use doesn't work anymore.
