Did you know that the Orkney is home to abundant kelp forests which are thought to help support carbon storage?
Join our team of scientists in the field as we work to increase our understanding of kelps involvement in the ocean carbon cycle in our new film 👇

Was lovely to see old pals and meet new folk last night at Scottish Parliament for community voices in marine policy reception. Rocking my @StromnessMuseum t-shirt!

Incredible biodiversity in my latest fine-net, autumn plankton sample. Tragically, however, there is now always microplastic pollution among the creatures that bring life to the sea and begin the marine food chain. @zeiss_micro
I'm currently showing some work in a group show, 'Orcadia', at Browns Gallery in Inverness, alongside a superb collection of Orkney artists, including @sam_clark_art, @Siggiee, Rebecca Marr of @KolektoCreative, and many more.
You can visit the show until November 11, 2023.
Exciting to hear about @EpisodStudio Race for the arctic using gaming to understand climate change and indigenous stories. Very relevant to @StromnessMuseum @AHI_Social#ahiconf23
Autumn arrived in #Orkney in style yesterday 🌊
There were fierce winds and ferry cancellations, but some fabulously stormy scenery to take in too 💙

Ahhh a headlouse ...the amazing things you see at @OrkSciFest - Chris Thomas from @QuekettMicro giving a talk in conjunction with @StromnessMuseum about the wonders of microscopy including some lovely thin sections of rocks @scottishgeology
Catch it while you can, the Tang & Ware exhibition at Northlight Gallery, Stromness closes at 4pm on Wednesday 23 August.
A legacy of the exhibition is Rebecca's new website that looks at Orkney’s social history of seaweed.

Science #Barbie is still with us! Today she's looking at rocks under the microscope.
This is a South African '4-pyroxene' gabbro, viewed with a sensitive tint plate.
It is often sold under the name "Black Impala" for kitchen countertops.
