A little Sunday read. I have always thought that Apple have been behind in the #AI race. I complemented them on wanting to keep as much on device as possible from a #privacy perspective but it now appears that the limitation of on device processing has reached its limit.

I was never a fan of Apple's, 'opt out,' model though when it came to their AI. Just as interesting after years of battling Google for supremacy in the smart phone market they now appear to be willing to use Google’s Gemini and servers to process off device.

How this ultimately plays out from a privacy perspective we will have to wait and see. arstechnica.com/apple/2026/0...

Messagner Encryption Roundabout. The recent announcement that Session the encrypted messenger app could close in July unless it raises $1m was followed by Meta's announcement that they are removing encryption from Instagram messages.

We have some better news that RCS is implementing encryption between the Apple & Google ecosystems. It is in beta, users will know that a conversation is end-to-end encrypted when they see a new lock icon in their RCS chats.

Encryption is on by default and will be automatically enabled over time for new and existing RCS conversations. Those who work in the #privacy space would never recommend using SMS however sometimes other people do and you may have no choice, so it is a small win.

In my new blog I explore the emotive issues relating to privacy and how sometimes we miss the importance of security as a rational requirement in these online digital times. #privacy #OSINT #OPSEC

You have to look at privacy holistically, privacy is not just about not sharing information or data. It is also about protecting yourself from a cyber security perspective, this means paradoxically giving up some privacy to be more secure. cqcore.blog/the-emotive-roll…

If you sign for services or newsletters, when the email drops to say there is a new one you click the link, right. However those links contain trackers. In the screenshot below you can delete everything after the ? mark to delete the tracker code. UTM is a marketing tracker .

There are different tracker codes for different things. They're also good for #OSINT as they potentially allow you to track back to who did an original post that has been shared, because sometimes the account details are in the tracking code.

The Online Safety Act in the UK is expected to be fully implemented by the Autumn of 2026. In this time we have seen the evolution of how age verification would be implemented at the app level and its #privacy issues. We are now moving to OS verification. gizmodo.com/apple-requires-d…

As we leave 2025 behind and move into 2026, I was reflecting on my Australian OSINT Symposium presentation. Remember, OPSEC & Privacy are not the same thing. Different methodologies, with different aims & objectives.

GitHub has some really useful #OSINT tools and for many we rely on others in the OSINT Community to have looked at the code. But, sometimes malicious ones get through. This write up explores one such OSINT tool with malicious intent. brighteyeintel.co.uk/researc…

Snooping around on NextDNS. They have introduced a beta feature called "Bypass Age Verification" that allows users to circumvent age checks on websites requiring government-issued ID or other personal documents.

This feature operates at the DNS level using geographic spoofing: when a user attempts to access a site with age verification, NextDNS intercepts the DNS request and routes it through proxy servers located in countries without mandatory ID-based age checks.

Research I have seen appears to be mixed. There are other ways a platform can tell which country you may be, country app version etc.
