HEROES DAY 2026 | HONOURING SACRIFICE, CELEBRATING VISION, BUILDING THE FUTURE! As we commemorate Heroes Day, we reflect with profound gratitude on the extraordinary sacrifices made by the men and women whose courage, conviction, and unwavering patriotism altered the course of Uganda’s history. This day is not merely a national observance; it is a solemn reminder that the peace, stability, freedom, and opportunities we enjoy today were secured through immense sacrifice. From the struggles against injustice and national decline to the historic liberation efforts that culminated in the triumph of the National Resistance Movement, our heroes demonstrated that nation-building requires not only courage in moments of adversity but also vision in moments of uncertainty. On this occasion, I pay special tribute to H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, whose strategic foresight, ideological clarity, and steadfast leadership during the Bush War and throughout Uganda’s reconstruction have profoundly shaped our nation’s trajectory. History will record that beyond the battlefield, his enduring contribution has been the articulation of a transformative vision anchored in peace, patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and the strategic importance of science, technology, and innovation as instruments of national development. His leadership continues to challenge Ugandans to think beyond the present and to build a nation capable of competing and thriving in an increasingly knowledge-driven world. The significance of Heroes Day therefore extends beyond remembrance; it calls upon every generation to become custodians of the legacy entrusted to us. The heroes of yesterday secured political stability and national unity. The responsibility of our generation is to secure economic prosperity, technological advancement, scientific excellence, and sustainable development. In the twenty-first century, patriotism must increasingly be expressed through innovation, productivity, research, entrepreneurship, and the creation of solutions that improve the lives of our people. As Minister in the Office of the President in Charge of Science, Technology and Innovation, I believe the most fitting tribute to our heroes is to transform their sacrifice into measurable national progress. Let us harness the power of knowledge, innovation, and technology to accelerate industrialization, create wealth, empower our youth, and strengthen Uganda’s position within Africa and the global community. In doing so, we honour not only the heroes who fought for our freedom but also the vision of a self-reliant, prosperous, and modern Uganda for which they sacrificed. May we never forget their sacrifice. May we remain worthy of their legacy. And may we continue building the Uganda they dreamed of and fought to secure. Happy Heroes Day, Uganda. For God and My Country. Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiki Minister in the Office of the President in Charge of Science, Technology and Innovation Republic of Uganda 🇺🇬

Some People Build Houses. I Build Trouble. Construction is messy, dust finds its way into places it has no business being, budgets collapse under the weight of reality, walls develop opinions, service providers test your faith and timelines become creative suggestions. At some point, every construction site starts looking less like a dream and more like a very expensive mistake. And yet, every single time, I find myself unable to resist the urge to build new things. Perhaps it is a character flaw, or hope dressed up as stubbornness. The truth is that I have always been fascinated by the possibility of creating spaces that did not exist before. Places where people can become more of themselves. Places where community happens by accident, where healing sneaks up on you while you are busy doing something else. The @QBookBar is one such place. For as long as memory serves me, I have dreamed of a quiet place where one could get lost in books and be found in many other things. A place where you arrive looking for a novel and leave with a new friend, where you come seeking silence and discover courage, where a random conversation over coffee changes the direction of your life.A place where reading is not an individual act of consumption but a collective act of imagination. That dream now has a physical address hidden somewhere between Ntinda and Kyambogo road, At first glance, it is a library, but that description feels painfully incomplete because libraries have often been presented to us as places to store books. We wanted to create a place that releases them. We wanted to create something different. A slower, softer, human space. A space for you to sit quietly and dream loudly. For years, through @qweshunga , we have invited adults to play again. To reconnect with forgotten parts of themselves, to remember that joy is not a luxury, it is a necessity and this Book Bar extends that same invitation. Come, play with ideas, wander through stories, sit by the fireplace, work quietly, colour outside the lines. My heart is full. Despite the chaos, the uncertainty, the fact that every new project seems determined to humble both my bank account and my blood pressure, I remain convinced that creating spaces where people can gather, learn, imagine, heal, and belong is still one of the most radical things we can do. Welcome to the Qweshunga Book Bar. #ReadSipConnect
