I'm not a fan of Marathon, I gave it a shot during the open testing and I hated it, absolutely hated it. Adding a PvE mode won't change that for me.
It also won't entice the now abandoned players of Destiny 2 to buy it either, at least not in the numbers they are likely hoping. I'm sure some will, but it will be a small percentage of the total Destiny 2 player base.
Players will just keep grinding on Destiny 2 honestly, until they have absolutely nothing left to do.
An extraction shooter, even if played entirely in PvE, is still an extraction shooter. It doesn't change the core mechanics or change that the game really is.
Bungie as it has nothing to offer me as a player now that Destiny 2 is done, and I'm confident I'm not alone.
Veteran video game voice actor Elias Toufexis has spoken out about the online "hate" directed at Marathon, following developer Bungie's decision to prioritize the game over Destiny 2.
