Excited to share that our paper on KID-VLM has been accepted to #ACL2025 Findings! ๐ŸŽ‰ This work is a nice addition to a growing but still underexplored area of #NeurosymbolicAI approaches for complex social issues ๐Ÿงฉ. We believe these methods will provide significant advances in both prediction and generation tasks, especially where nuance and context matter. Our work develops a #NeurosymbolicAI approach, KID-VLM, that combines the #LVLMs and commonsense #KnowledgeGraphs to detect subtle and context-rich cues of #OnlineToxicity. #OnlineToxicity often disguises itself behind sarcasm, dark humor, and cultural nuance. Our approach bridges the gap between implicit signals in neural models and explicit reasoning through symbolic knowledge, improving recall, accuracy, and interpretability. Read the preprint ๐Ÿ“œ: arxiv.org/abs/2411.12174 Thanks to our amazing team for pushing this forward, and to the ACL community for recognizing this effort! with @trilokpadhi_ Rahul Garg, Hemang Jain, @ponguru #ACL2025 #NeuroSymbolicAI #OnlineToxicity #CommonsenseAI #LVLMs #LLMs

Detecting #OnlineToxicity is a challenging problem because it often hides behind sarcasm, dark humor, and cultural references. ๐Ÿงฉ To address this problem, we need models that capture explicit contextual cues and provide culturally informed decision criterion to separate #harmful from #harmless. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ“Š

NAMI is deeply concerned by the Administration's plan to reorganize @HHSGov โ€” disrupting the bipartisan progress we've made to address Americaโ€™s mental health, suicide, and substance use crises. We must ensure that HHS and @samhsagov staff can continue their critical work during a time when it is desperately needed. bit.ly/4hO7Pnq

Thank you for posting our research, @drseanmullen. Immensely enjoyed working with you, @crlarrison, and @drsummersun!
๐Ÿ’ฐ Which type of student loan borrower are you? ๐Ÿ’ฐ New research led by Dr. Gaurav Sinha uncovers four distinct financial profiles among young adults repaying student loans: ๐Ÿ”ด Financially Strained (21%) โ€“ Struggling to make ends meet ๐ŸŸก Financially Capricious (20%) โ€“ Unpredictable spending habits ๐ŸŸข Financially Balanced (29%) โ€“ Managing debt responsibly ๐Ÿ”ต Financially Vulnerable (30%) โ€“ At high risk of default Your gender, race, and education level may influence where you land. Employment, income, and even marital status also play a role. ๐Ÿ“Š These findings could help financial counselors tailor interventions to prevent student loan defaults. Grateful to have worked with an excellent team, including Christopher Larrison @crlarrison and Sicong Sun to bring this research to light!
