I had the same experience— as a kid I realize now I just learned how to push numbers around on a page; after teaching elementary math I have a fundamentally different (and to me, better) understanding of how numbers work. Kids shouldn’t have to wait.
It wasn't until I taught elementary school and found myself breaking this down for young kids that I realized the difference. The old way did me a disservice that I see the impact of every day. I'm so excited that my daughter (a future DISD student) will be better served.

In case you missed it, excited to share a brief featuring our recent study on the preparation of teachers via fully-online programs- where coursework is online, and candidates complete just 30 hrs of classroom observation prior to becoming teachers. ttu-ir.tdl.org/handle/2346/9… 1/x

Just one piece of a complex puzzle, but teacher residencies are impactful and there are plenty of models to learn from— as always @EctorCountyISD leading the way. Way to go!
This 1st year teacher @ Buddy West ES is the star of the show today! Why? She’s a product of our teacher pipelines AND had a full year paid residency! She’s not your ordinary first year teacher! #HumanCapital@EctorCountyISD⁩ ⁦@EcisdTalented⁩ ⁦@teainfo

Denver's Office of Storytelling did a video about American Indian Academy of Denver, a charter school that closed its doors for good earlier this month. The video was filmed over the last few weeks of school. denvergov.org/Community/Neig… #edcolo

It’s always so nice to see your work in print, but these journals are positively gorgeous. Great work to the @ArborealMag team and all the great artists and designers who worked on these issues!

Psyched to have this piece, “Stonecutter’s Chorus,” out in the world, just in time for baseball season. Huge thanks to @ArborealMag & special shout out to @chillsubs for helping me find a home for this story.

I suggest looking at all of the @EctorCountyISD TIA celebration photos but this one celebrating an incredible PreK teacher really got me. A life-changing amount of money for a teacher who is changing lives.

“America doesn’t love its children.” I realized that during a show abt school food in another country—they want their kids to grow up smart & strong, so they give them the best. It was absurd to me. We don’t feed, educate, or protect our kids like we love them. Not even close

So great to see Lytle getting the national attention they deserve!
Lytle Collegiate ISD hosted a large delegation yesterday from AASA Early Childhood and Rural Cohorts sharing best practices with district leaders from around Texas and across the U.S. Lytle is in the P-20 Cohort 4 and is accomplishing amazing work Pre-K through high school!

Thank you and your team for hosting us in @EISDofSA! This was our biggest group of district leaders yet, and it was so great to see how your years of purposeful innovation are bearing fruit.
What a great opportunity to share our Innovation journey with our @teainfo System of Great Schools partners at our @LasPalmasEISD Leadership School for Girls & @PeralesESchool Steam School in @EISDofSA @WeGoPublic @SACharterMoms @Innovate_EISD @csdewitt

Lots of districts are going to be forced to make tough decisions in the next couple years as the realities of declining enrollment and sunsetting stimulus dollars set in. Courageous leaders would do well to study up on what’s worked and not worked 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
