The funny thing about buying cheap Chinese industrial tools is that you sometimes find treasures rooted in translation

Woefully underrated bit of lab kit.

Pinch me, I can't believe someone wrote about lab notebooks. Unbelievably cool

This very quickly went from "what even is a derrick?" to "wow, I suddenly realize how absolutely little I know about all the different things I've calling a crane"
Fun Fact: LA has many oil derricks hidden in plain sight! "Built in 1967, what looks like a windowless beige office building along Pico in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood hides 52 oil and gas wells owned by Sentinel Peak Resources. A derrick on tracks moves from well head to well head within the roofless structure"

I feel a cold fury whenever I open a pdf of some paper to read and Adobe is like "Hm, this looks long. Would you like me to just summarize it for you?" No, fuck you, Adobe. The paper is long because it contains a lot of details that matter. Why wouldn't I want to read them?

Now that is a contraption.

NDIR vs eCO2 - which means *equivalent* CO2. eCO2 is calculated from MOX iAQ sensors, which are themselves, inherently sensitive to "f*ckin everything", factored against a 2nd MEMS T / %RH (and ideally, pressure) - to give a rough idea of CO2 levels. They are *rough* values.
Can't trust anything anymore

More companies should show off their ATE / production test gear! This stuff is an often overlooked artform, and the secret sauce to "self hosting" when it comes to shipping reliability, and anything over prototyping quantities!
Behind every reliable part of the Form 4 3D Printer, there are thousands of hours of hidden engineering. This custom pneumatic rig, for example, is the Form 4 Mixer Latch Cycle Tester—built to open and close the mixer latch thousands of times to ensure ultimate long-term reliability. 🛠️🤖 #Form4 #Hardware #QA #3DPrinting #Engineering #Formlabs

It's also a fairly good way to bootcamp mechanics and automation, if you only have exposure to the electronics side of things. really can't recommend enough building a doohickie contraption or two.

A problem?! These kids have just shown that they are prepared to apply their brains to work and obtain degrees in their chosen subjects, and they have to sit and listen to *an investor in this context* telling them that soon it will all have been worthless. fuck. off.
There is a serious problem with this new generation. Former Google CEO encouraged students to embrace Ai at the 2026 University of Arizona Commencement Ceremony, and was met with a stadium full of boo’s. You heard that right, these kids are embracing the permanent underclass.

I look at this and I see a winding machine for a linear actuator...
Still very much a prototype, but my plotters just picked up a new skill: weaving! #plottertwitter

And from the results section, it does actually appear to work in their test, at least!

Q: would you trust a company trying to show you how simple all their beginner electronics projects are, if they are only able to offer you AI generated videos, of something that takes 5 seconds to film?
Yeah or you could just read the the back of the board. I'm so tired of AI bros. So very tired.

this shouldn't be the state of things. how come the people "building" things are building things they seemingly don't actually care about? feels like the test suite is "does the monetization work?" rather than "does it actually function?"

The concept of trying to teach your hardware assistant product to try it's best to find technical components, *via your affiliate link*... vs knowing how a distributor API works.
