sometimes I write in different voices, more formal or clever or Wilde-esque in its twisted double speak, but then I read it and its almost akin to wearing a prose skin suit, and I’m impressed by my ability to not sound like myself but also feel wholly disconnected from the output

I sometimes wonder what world people inhabit that looks so different than my own, what an interesting perspective!
In his first encyclical, Pope Leo XIV quotes J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.” “It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till.” (Photo: Vatican Media)

I love the idea that, to John, Tolkien’s work at its core, is fundamentally leftist literature. And last week I was being told his work is misogynistic far right slop. This is awesome. We are all so different

There are very noble good people who would not dare speak to their own ~goodness. Anyone professing to be purely noble or good often uses it as a weapon of shame to denigrate others or obfuscate their own depravity.

Goodness then might be the quiet pursuit of it with the understanding pursuit is the aim, the end state impossible for man as man is fallible. Emphasis on quiet as speaking to it often suggests having achieved said impossible end state

From the team that brought you “Why is Snow White Latina?,” “Why are there Black people in ‘The Rings of Power’?,” and “Star Wars has gone woke” comes the latest online onslaught against the diverse cast of “The Odyssey.” These culture warriors have been led to battle by their own personal Agamemnon, Elon Musk. SITUATION EXPLAINED: @kathrynjc7 breaks down the Wasian meetup success: "I feel like we are just seeing this wave. It kind of got started with Heated Rivalry's popularity, and then Alyssa Liu and Eileen Gu." "I got so many DMs of people telling me that it was the first time they had really felt seen and heard in an environment like that." "1,700 people were there throughout the 24 hours." "At the event there were people making announcements that they wanted, like, a Blasian meetup and a Gaysian meetup. And so there were, like, sub-meetups happening at the meetup." "This morning I bought the domain citizensofwasia.com. We have an IG account, website and a WhatsApp community now." @danacbryce

I would like to amend my previous post about Kathleen Kennedy with the clarification that ANDOR and ROGUE ONE were, in my estimation, good stories. And they were indeed created during her tenure. But that was mostly thanks to Tony Gilroy. So I was most of the way correct

😂 the mental gymnastics required to draw this conclusion is awesome. I think the simple truth is this era was led by a team that had no respect for the source material. Perhaps some self awareness might help them crawl out of the hole they dug themselves?
Kathleen Kennedy, in her Deadline exit interview after stepping down as Lucasfilm president, on what she considered the lows of her tenure: "The lows are that you've got a very, very small percentage of the fan base that has enormous expectations and basically they want to continue to see pretty much the same thing. And if you're not going to do that, then you know going in that you're going to disappoint them. I'm not sure there's anything you can do about that, because you can't please everybody." Is the person who ran Star Wars into the ground blaming the fans on her way out?

Not that it matters for Kathleen now. Everything made under her was in service of profit and ideology rather than in service of storytelling. This is a recipe for disaster every time!!
