MS lost a special leader and I lost a good friend with the passing of Dr Elayne Anthony. Public Health and higher education champion and leader, she was always supportive of my work as State Health Officer. I always loved it when she wanted a photo. Her life made MS better! ❤️

I'm so grateful to be a Mississippi physician! I'm also grateful for the service of our public health physicians @msdh as they work to serve the people of Mississippi everyday. 🫡

NMMC Gilmore-Amory is a great example of rural healthcare doing well. They shared with me their new C-section room, level 2 NICU, 6 new ICU beds, and a fully staffed workforce. Great work in North East MS! @pchaneymd @hobbryan @NMMC_news @msdh

Today the place of honor is set for EMS responders who have died in the line of duty. We give thanks for their service and sacrifice. This is for those paramedics/EMTs who didn't make it home🙏🏻

Shout out to our @msdh Southern Regional Health Officer Dr. Christy Barnett @eaglemd94 who welcomed high school students from Louisiana, Tennessee and Mississippi participating in weeklong broadcast journalism camp at @SouthernMiss . They interviewed her about the work MSDH is doing to combat health disparities. Students were inspired! We are thankful for our partnership with USM! #BetterTogether #ChangeCantWait #PublicHealthMatters

A special day in McComb celebrating the inaugural class of resident physicians in the newest Family Medicine residency in the state. Congratulations to these fine physicians and to Dr. Speed and the SW MS Regional Med Center leadership for the hard work making this a reality!

A fun duty as SHO is visiting areas of the state I don't get to see much. Last week I enjoyed visiting the health departments in Jefferson, Franklin, Amite, Adams, and Wilkinson. @msdh is studying the best model to provide community level public health services for our future.

CHDs are a partnership between @msdh and the local county. The buildings are county owned. We provide the staff and services.A full renovation of Wilkinson is coming soon in partnership with the county. Our CHDs are so important for providing access to core public health services

Arboviral infections are of most concern for @msdh. West Nile is active in MS. Eastern Equine-other viral encephalitides are transmitted likewise. If you're traveling to Puerto Rico or Central America, protect yourself against dengue fever, CHIKV, and Zika but 🚫chase the 🦟man!
Keep those pesky mosquitoes at bay, Mississippi! 🦟 Protect yourself by wearing insect repellent, covering up exposed skin, & eliminating standing water around your home. Let's enjoy the outdoors bite-free this summer! #MosquitoPrevention #FightTheBite #HealthyMS #HealthCantWait
