🇬🇪 | On this day 34 years ago, March 31, 1991, millions of Georgians came together to participate in a pivotal referendum with a simple yet profound question:
"Do you agree or disagree with restoring Georgia’s state independence based on the Act of May 26, 1918?"
An overwhelming 98.9% of Georgians answered "Yes," and just one week later, Georgia declared its independence from the Soviet Union as the rightful successor to the First Republic of Georgia.
Those Georgians could scarcely have imagined, even in their darkest nightmares, that 34 years later we would still be battling the toxic remnants of that evil empire. Yet here we are.
Today, tens of thousands of Georgians will gather on Rustaveli Avenue to honor and proclaim the legacy of our cherished ancestors.
Long live free Georgia!
