What have we learned after two days of Assisted Dying Committee evidence? 1. Lack of access to palliative care is a major barrier to assisted dying being a genuine choice.

The Cathedral Community is deeply concerned and saddened by news of a fatal stabbing in our town last night. Our prayers are with the victim, their family and friends and all the emergency services involved. Knife crime affects us all. It will take all of us to address it.

The boat accident in Sicily is totally tragic for all involved but compare the coverage of this to that of the many boats sinking regularly in the channel. Objective journalism?

Now we need to get everyone together to find sane and humane ways forward. It will not be easy but we mustn’t loose our souls just because it is difficult. @CburyCathedral
I heartily welcome the PM's confirmation today that 'the Rwanda Policy is dead and buried'-I hope the needs of vulnerable people caught by the Illegal Migration Act will now be addressed, safe&legal routes opened up, international cooperation furthered and criminal gangs tackled.

This.
"The number of hate crimes reported (most are not) continue to rise against LGBTQ people in the UK. We at the Cathedral stand with all who are harmed in any way because of who they are. PRIDE month remains vital whilst such prejudice continues to rear its ugly face." Dean David

Yet still so much denial. The past is not straightforwardly the past. Those impacted know that even if others deny it.
I was grieved today visiting the site of Zanzibar’s old slave market. It is now a church, where the past atrocities committed here are actively remembered. The impact of sin is more extensive than we could ever know. The consequences of the evil of slavery are beyond comprehension. This can cause people to look away. However, we must honestly face our past. In fact, it is only when we do, that we can know redemption – for salvation always involves our confession, repentance, and intent to live in line with the Kingdom of God. May God have mercy on us that we might do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly together with our God.

An article published on April 7 mistakenly claimed that the Clapham chemical attacker Abdul Ezedi had been supported by the Church of England, and that this enabled him to 'beat the system'. We accept that Mr Ezedi is not known to have had any connections with the Church of England and apologise for the error.

Such love and joy - hopeful annunciations
On Monday evening an all-female clergy team officiated at the Eucharist, we think for the first time in our history. This happy happenstance was made more poignant as we were keeping the Feast of the Annunciation and celebrating the role of Mary in bringing Christ to the world.

Happy Eid to colleagues, friends, neighbours and partners in peace.
I wish a blessed Eid al-Fitr to all Muslims celebrating today. At the start of Ramadan, I had the joy of attending an iftar at Canterbury Mosque. I was met with such hospitality and kindness – things that we so often encounter in Muslim communities across the UK. Our society is greatly enriched by their presence and contribution, and I give thanks for the continuing Christian and Muslim partnerships working together for the good of all. #EidMubarak @ChrisMusForum
