This is the Abakaliki–Afikpo flyover section of the Ebonyi–Cross River–Nasarawa–Benue–Abuja Super Highway, a landmark project valued at over ₦400 billion, and this particular place we are seeing now is the Abaomege section of the road, my own community.
I must say that seeing my people so happy yesterday, shouting the names of President Tinubu and Engr. David Umahi because of this project, brought tears down to my eyes.
You see, if you're not from my community, Abaomege, made up of seven villages, you will never understand what I am trying to say here. Since 1999, no govt noticed us in the whole of Ebonyi State, and my leader, Engr. David Umahi, confirmed exactly what I am saying yesterday. In fact, it got so bad at some point that we did not even know if we were part of the South-East, talk more of Nigeria. Then Sen. David Umahi came in as Governor and did what he could. But in 2023, God answered our prayers in full through Tinubu, Ọ́rùù Kà.
Today, I boldly say that my community, Abaomege, is becoming one of the most developed communities in ÀlàIgbo, all thanks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Engr. David Umahi.
What makes this emotional for me is that this road is not just passing through our land, it is rewriting our history. For years, politicians came and went. We listened to promises. We voted. We waited. Nothing happened.
Our people travelled on terrible roads, businesses suffered, opportunities passed us by, and many of our young people left believing nothing good could ever come to this place.
This is why I laugh whenever I see people who have never stepped foot in communities like mine sit comfortably online and tell us what development looks like. Must I reject what I can see with my own eyes because it does not fit somebody's political narrative?
Must Abaomege refuse development because some people have already decided who they want to hate? Must we pretend this road does not exist? Must we deny the transformation taking place in our communities just to make some politicians feel better about themselves?
History will be very kind to those who made this possible because long after the noise of politics fades away, this road will remain here. Long after the arguments on media disappear, this road will still be carrying our people, opening up our communities, connecting businesses, and creating opportunities for generations yet unborn.
