Popping back into this hell hole with lightning speed just to note that the opening line of this ("Squeeze my cherry baby, so the juice can run down my leg"), has its roots in Robert Johnson's 'Traveling Riverside Blues'.
Prince losing it while Boni and Wally are being goddamn disgusting (Slow Love Rehearsal) [NSFW]. #Prince4ever

So, I think I'm done here. I no longer wish to use a platform operated by a man who bolstered and supported the re-election of a right-wing, fascist, wannabe dictator. If anyone wants me, I'll be on Instagram (dbpmccarthy). Take care.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I have such a sinking feeling about this whole thing. Still early days though...

Oh man. What a titan of contemporary music. No doubt there'll be a lot of focus on his work with Michael Jackson, but even if he'd never even worked with MJ, he'd still have one of the most illustrious careers in the history of popular music. Hell of a legacy. R.I.P.

Made the most of hmv's 40% off Criterion Collection sale this weekend to quell the growing existential dread I feel about Tuesday...

How is this even legal?
Trump: Let's put Liz Cheney with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. Let's see how she feels about it when the guns are trained on her face

One of the most appropriate album covers I've ever seen, because this album will take your fucking head off. Holy hell.

NEW REVIEW Really enjoying @ChuckProphet's new album featuring @QIENSAVE, Wake The Dead, and wrote up some thoughts about it for @nowthenmag! Link below for those who are interested.
"The lyrical landscape of Wake The Dead is one evidently haunted by the ever-present spectre of mortality" @DBPMcCarthy reviews the new offering from @ChuckProphet and collaborators ¿@QIENSAVE? 🎶 @yeproc nowthenmagazine.com/record-r…

This is actually quite surprising considering how lukewarm the critical and financial reception for Kingdom was. Not that I'm complaining. I'll take all the Apes films I can get.

Thrilled to have stumbled across a copy of this in a St. Lukes yesterday for £4.50!! Only the second copy I've ever seen in the wild round here over the years. They had a run of the mill McCartney album priced up at £19, so I'm not entirely sure they knew what they had here.

NEW REVIEW I was lucky enough to catch a screening of the Paul McCartney & Wings documentary, One Hand Clapping, last month at the @showroomcinema, and was thrilled to write up some thoughts about it for @nowthenmag! Link below for those who are interested.
"One Hand Clapping remains a resplendent record of a band simultaneously riding a creative high and hitting their commercial stride" @dbpmccarthy reviews a long-lost documentary which captures @PaulMcCartney cresting the second wave of his long career ✍️ nowthenmagazine.com/film-rev…

Rewatched Batman Forever last night, and for a film that frequently gets so goofy, it's visually very dark. Borderline hard to see what's going on in certain scenes. Often the only source of light is strobing neon. Though also dark, Burton's Batman films were always well lit.

Say what you will about Batman & Robin, but at least the brighter visual aesthetic matches the much more light hearted vibe of the film. Forever is just such a muddled mess of movie in terms of the tone and visual aesthetic.
