From Paid in Full: The Battle for Black Music. Highly recommend this 3-part doc. #Prince was part of a legacy of many who came before him working for the same cause in the rights of artists, and specifically Black artists. Was really cool to see in the context of that history.

Thrilled to have stumbled across a copy of this in a St. Lukes yesterday for £4.50!!
Only the second copy I've ever seen in the wild round here over the years.
They had a run of the mill McCartney album priced up at £19, so I'm not entirely sure they knew what they had here.

Happy birthday to the legendary Art Blakey, who was born on this day in 1919!
Blakey made a name for himself in the 40s in the big bands of Fletcher Henderson and Billy Eckstine. He then worked with bebop musicians Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, and Dizzy Gillespie.
In the mid-1950s, Horace Silver and Blakey formed the Jazz Messengers, a group which he led for the next 35 years…
