The Colorado Renaissance Festival kicks off this weekend in Larkspur! Expect heavy traffic in the area. Please be patient and plan ahead. If you are travelling to the Colorado Renaissance Festival, use I-25 to access Larkspur from the north as the West Frontage Road between Castle Rock and Larkspur will remain closed through the summer. 🚗 Park only in designated festival lots. Please do not park in or cut through nearby neighborhoods. Have fun, enjoy the turkey legs, and stay safe out there!

Sheriff Darren Weekly was honored to present a brand-new Chromebook to Chase, an outstanding student at Summit View Elementary School, in partnership with Alex’s Legacy Compass. 🌟 Chase is this year's recipient of Alex’s Buddy Award. Founded by Victoria Cegielski to honor the legacy of her beloved son, Alex, whom she tragically lost, this special award isn't about top grades—it’s about celebrating exceptional character, kindness, and selflessness. Through school staff nominations, Chase was chosen because he perfectly embodies the big heart and positive attitude that made Alex so special. As the Douglas County School District beautifully noted, a student who receives this laptop benefits not only from the technology, but from the powerful story of kindness and community love behind it. Way to go, Chase! We are incredibly proud of you, and we know you will continue to be a shining light as you head into middle school. 💻❤️

Today, we proudly welcome 11 new deputies to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office family following their graduation from the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Academy. These graduates have completed 21 weeks of rigorous training and are now preparing to serve our community in both Detentions and Patrol. Their commitment, perseverance, and dedication have brought them to this important milestone, and we are excited to see the positive impact they will make in Douglas County. During the graduation ceremony, Sheriff Darren Weekly reminded the class of the responsibility that comes with the badge: “Each of you here stands ready to embark on a path that you choose to walk. This path demands courage, integrity, and a steadfast dedication to serve and protect your community.” Please join us in congratulating Class 22 and wishing these new deputies success as they begin their careers serving the residents of Douglas County. We also extend our congratulations to the graduates joining the Parker Police Department, Castle Rock Police Department, and South Metro Fire Rescue SWAT Medics following their successful completion of the academy.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA: watch as a Douglas County Search and Rescue drone drops critical supplies to lost hikers near Bear Mountain on Thursday evening. Initial reports indicated the subjects were low on water and phone battery. While multiple teams were responding, the drone team located the subjects, established communication, confirmed they were uninjured, and returned with the care package supply drop. The missing hikers did an excellent job staying in place, calling for help once they realized they were disoriented and providing their coordinates. The DCSAR team reached the hikers and guided them to safety. From @DCSARColorado: “We're proud of the work our team put in and are extremely grateful for the support provided by the OEM Helitack crew & our deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. This operation was a great example of how strong partnerships, coordinated resources, traditional search and rescue techniques, and emerging technologies can all work together to achieve a positive outcome.” #HonorServiceValor

We hear you and now we want you to hear us. Public safety is our top priority. High-powered electric dirt bikes are not traditional e-bikes. Certain models can reach speeds up to 75 mph and are increasingly being ridden by young, inexperienced riders in places where they are not legally permitted. Calls for service and serious injury incidents are rising. Our goal is to educate families, prevent injuries, and avoid tragedy before it happens. Please help us spread the word and keep our community safe.

Help Us Keep You Safe During Emergencies! If you live in Douglas or Elbert County and access to your property is controlled by a locked gate, we ask that you take a few moments to ensure your gate code information is up to date. During emergencies such as wildfires, medical emergencies, evacuations, or other 911 responses, every second matters. Having current gate access information on file can help first responders reach you, your family, and your property as quickly as possible when time is critical. As part of our ongoing commitment to community safety, we are updating our emergency access records and encourage residents with gated properties to provide or verify their gate code information. You can securely update your information by visiting our website at: dcsheriff.net/sheriffs-offic… We understand that gate codes are personal and sensitive information. Any information you provide will be kept confidential, securely maintained, and used only by authorized emergency personnel when access to your property is needed during an emergency response. Your participation helps us better serve and protect our community. Thank you for helping us ensure that first responders can reach those who need assistance when it matters most. 📲 Sign up for emergency alerts so you get critical updates in real time at dougcoalert.com

🚩 Think you've seen every scam? Here's a new one making the rounds. We want to make our community aware of a new scam that has been spreading quickly in other states. While we have not seen any reports of this happening in Douglas County, we want residents to be informed and prepared. The scam is being called the “CAPTCHA Scam.” It starts with a fake “I’m not a robot” verification prompt online. Instead of simply clicking images, victims are instructed to enter a series of keyboard commands, often involving the Windows key, run box, copy/paste functions, and the Enter key. These steps can unknowingly install malware onto a computer or device. Once installed, the malware may steal saved passwords, financial information, browser data, cryptocurrency wallet information, and other personal details. A legitimate CAPTCHA will never ask you to enter keyboard commands or paste anything into a command window. To protect yourself: • Do not follow unusual keyboard instructions from a website • Close suspicious webpages immediately • Keep your devices and antivirus software updated • Never paste unknown commands into your computer Please share this information to help others stay informed.

Today, we pause to remember the heroes of D-Day and honor the courage, sacrifice, and selfless service of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Their bravery helped secure freedom for future generations and serves as a lasting reminder of the cost of liberty. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office proudly remembers those who answered the call and gave so much for our nation. We will never forget their sacrifice.

We hear you. Our deputies and School Resource Officers are out in force addressing the growing concerns surrounding e-motorcycles in our neighborhoods. On Friday alone, they responded to dozens of calls. The average age of riders contacted was just 12-14 years old, both boys and girls. Every rider was issued a written warning, and every parent was contacted and warned. If these violations continue, parents could face criminal charges for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The e-motorcycles were released to parents, who were required to load them up and take them home. Please help us before someone gets seriously hurt or killed. We’re not trying to take away anyone’s fun. We understand these bikes are popular, and we want kids to enjoy their summer. But many of these vehicles are not street legal, and we’re seeing dangerous behavior on public roads, around vehicles, pedestrians, and neighborhoods. This is about safety for the riders, drivers, and everyone sharing our roads. Parents, please know what your kids are riding, where they’re riding, and the laws that apply.

Youth Hockey Coach Arrested for Child Sex Crimes; Detectives Seek Additional Victims On June 4, 2026, detectives with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested 40-year-old Rory Nathaniel Mushlin following a tip he was engaged in inappropriate behavior with minors. Mushlin, a resident of Colorado Springs, is being held on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, unlawful electronic sexual communication – person of trust, obscenity, and internet sexual exploitation of a child. He was taken into custody without incident. Since January 2023, Mushlin served as a local youth hockey coach at South Suburban Sports Complex in Highlands Ranch. Investigators learned the team Mushlin coached also practiced at the Parker Field House and the Family Sports Center in Arapahoe County. Douglas County detectives have identified multiple underage victims. Because of the suspect's coaching position and regular interaction with youth sports programs, investigators are working to ensure all potential victims are identified and provided with support. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is actively encouraging anyone with information, or parents who believe their child may have had contact with the suspect under concerning circumstances, to reach out to Detective Clay at sclay@dcsheriff.net. Mushlin was transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility. A judge set his bond at $75,000. All charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty in a court of law. This is still an open and active investigation. No additional information will be released at this time.

Clarification: Since January 2023, Mushlin served as the ice and facilities manager at South Suburban. Investigators have learned the roller hockey team Mushlin coached practiced in Parker and Colorado Springs.
