Colby Wilkens, “I believed what I was told” is not a valid excuse for falsely claiming Cherokee identity in the year of our lord 2024. It is well known that many white families pass down fabricated stories of a Cherokee ancestor.

My thing with the whole Colby Wilkens drama is she lied about being registered, presented herself as a BIPOC authority while not living an indigenous life, and has taken opportunities away from underrepresented authors. But everyone is silent and afraid she'll expose them.
