Three years ago yesterday we started shooting 'Sober'. The most fun nine days I've ever had in my life, running around
#Leeds with Tom Gibbons and
@deansmith7. We had sooo much luck to actually get it shot, with no crew to speak of and not much budget (7k for a feature film). The dance on Leeds town hall steps was made up on the spot, and shot in 20 mins. We nearly got banned from Pontefract Races, and was saved at the last second. An actor had to drop out last minute with no notice & Kru Lundy rocked up to play a key role and nailed it. I got Covid a week before we shot, and was all clear on the first day, so much better, that it's me (at age 49) who breakdances in the 'Dancer' sequence' - every single thing went in our favour. Maybe it was Gary Damer - the ginger kid from East is East, now retired from acting who plays an Irish jockey in the film, did he bring us some feckin luck? Then, after two years of editing in-between jobs - we released it on the SAME DAY as
@LUFC got promoted - and we got 10,000 YouTube views on that day, coverage in the YEP / Leeds Live / BBC etc. If you've not watched it yet - it's here free to view - the most Leedsy film ever made - no budget, but a massive heart 'Sober'
