A soft, damp, pearl-grey morning, thinly veined with silver. A noisy skein of geese flew over early, and I thought of my parent's old house in west Lancashire, where wave after wave of geese would pass overhead, making for St Martin's Mere.

A wall-to-wall carpeting of pearl grey sky this morning, with just a few strange silvery mushroom shapes near the castle. It was very chilly first thing and the garden smelt richly damp and slightly fruity, as wet earth so often does.
