There are ppl who talk about queer lives & ideas - whether w. curiosity or hostility - like they're outsiders looking in. & there's ppl who talk about them like they're a jacket they're considering putting on. @yourewrongabout's Sarah Marshall's was always one of the latter...
seems to be lots of ppl around me coming out in their 30s (a byproduct of millennial extended kidulthood?) - which makes for some interesting dynamics when those who are 20 years into queer journies encounter ppl the same age but fresh off the boat in terms of living queer lives
obvs nothing new but has some different qualities now that ppl are less likely to have left a het marriage/had kids before coming out later (& being queer is cool now?) can make it harder maybe to name the differences in experience & how they impact on relationships
1 August 2020 - Barry Sheerman MP tweets about "silver shekels" in reference to 2 Jewish businessmen.
He deletes the tweets and apologises.
Labour's statement: "Barry has deleted the tweets and apologised. He deeply regrets the offence caused."
That is the end of the matter.
Insane own goal from #BBC to pull Lineker from #MatchOfTheDay & make it into the talk of the pubs on a Saturday. Combined w pulling Attenborough's prog from linear TV discovering the Chair being involved in arranging loans for Johnson, its lack of independence is plain as day
governments have always wanted a docile BBC but we've never had so many ppl in senior gov positions who actively want to destroy it. Now it seems like the gov appointees at the top of the BBC are also trying to kill it off
There is another way forward! At @mediareformUK we've got plans for a devolved, democratised, independent accountable People's BBC. All that's missing is political will. mediareform.org.uk/key-issue…
With all this talk about @GaryLineker, the BBC & impartiality I though I’d share some interesting points from @mediareformUK’s BBC and Beyond campaign where they built a “manifesto for a people’s media”

"All boats are in the same storm but why is ours on the rocks? You have to blame those in charge!”
Years of systemic mismanagement have led us to this point where ALL staff @uniofeastanglia fear that they can lost their job within the next few weeks.

Yesterday there was a terrorist attack on British soil, a literal suicide bombing. You would hardly know because the intended victims are not treated as part of our communities. And then they were rehoused at Manston - a site already notorious for violating human rights.
