🏖️Thames Water's creditors have been trying for months to win a holiday from the rules as part of their bid to formally take over the utility. 🤔 Right now, Ofwat's Board are SPLIT over whether or not to let them. ✍️ Write to the Board of Ofwat now. Urge them to reject the creditors and run our water sector in the interests of people, not profit vist.ly/4z5ck

Andy Burnham keeps talking about public control instead of public ownership At best this is super confusing At worst he's already planning to betray his voters After 40 years of failed privatisation, the public deserves clarity youtube.com/watch?v=WBWHPLiY…

A "huge transfer of ownership" is EXACTLY what's needed to stop the British public paying a Privatisation Tax on outrageous water and energy bills Call it what it is then - PUBLIC OWNERSHIP Water and energy are already in "public control" i.e. regulated theguardian.com/politics/202…

'Public Ownership' means the government or a public body holds the legal title and assets of an organisation or industry. 'Public Control' means the government regulates or directs how an organisation operates, even if it remains privately owned. So Burnham's 'Public Control' pledge could easily just mean keeping the criminal, polluting privatised Water Companies in place but just beefing up regulation. Not good enough @We_OwnIt

A @We_OwnIt campaign move, getting DEFRA to accept a letter advising a move to public ownership for water and sewage. I'm here with @Feargal_Sharkey and the two stars of #DirtyBusiness, @ashsmith43 and @watervole3

The evidence is clear: forcing markets and profit into services where they do not belong has not made life better for ordinary people. Private utility firms have hiked bills, neglected infrastructure and failed the public. If we are serious about ending the cost of living crisis, we need to bring essential utilities back into public ownership.

Water is too precious and sewage too dangerous to be in private hands.
Public ownership of water is hugely popular. In a democracy this should count for something. But the government continues to undemocratically protect private water profiteers. Baroness Jenny Jones helped deliver a letter to the Environment Secretary, asking her to tell the truth about water public ownership.

Update on Railways Bill: There was a major win on public ownership this week, but the government failed to take on ANY amendments for passenger and disability rights or public interest. Our full report is coming soon, before we take this fight to the House of Lords.

The Railways Bill is the biggest opportunity in decades to get justice for disabled passengers. It also presents serious risks to their rights. It's exactly the time that well-funded charities should be pushing harder than ever, ensuring the work is not left to volunteers.

"The industry is broken. Introducing regulations, penalties and blocking bonuses clearly is not working" Well said @EmmaLewell 🙌 More regulation is simply rearranging the deckchairs, while our pockets empty and our rivers fill with sewage. Public ownership NOW, beginning with the collapsing Thames Water. Emma Lewell MP has signed our open letter to Ofwat urging them to take Thames Water into special administration. Has your MP signed? weownit.org.uk/mps-open-lett…

My being a Parliamentarian (and therefore trustworthy??) had no impact at all. They eventually let us in and sent some poor unwitting civil servant to accept the letter ...

We have been campaigning for public ownership of rail for years. It’s wonderful to see that work, alongside those of the rail unions, recognised in parliament today. Thank you @switherdenMP for working with us. Our public services should work for us. Not private shareholders.

🔥🔥@CHinchliffMP is absolutely spot on: people will judge the success of public ownership of rail on whether it makes using trains cheaper. His amendment - supported by We Own It - will create a Great British Railcard to give every passenger a discount on fares. Govt should back it.

The government can’t be bringing train operations into public ownership, which is wonderful, yet allowing many jobs at train stations to be outsourced. The government must back @johnmcdonnellMP’s amendment to bring services in-house like they promised to do at the last election.
