This has been grinding my machine to a halt on every. single. google. hangout. Now running crystalidea.com/macs-fan-con… to make the mac choose performance over silence, its knocked the CPU cores down from mid 90s Celsius to low 60s

There’s an insane fact I know about macs that I thought everyone else knew, but apparently they don’t. If you see a process called ‘kernel_task’ in Activity Monitor and it’s using all your CPU and slowing down your computer *it’s not a real process at all*.

DreamLab is an app that will crunch numbers for medical research whilst phones are charging. Thus far they've been processing data for cancer projects, but have recently added an Imperial College project to discover potential coronavirus treatments. Every extra device helps.

For context, 450kg of TNT is slightly less than half a V2 warhead
In November 1970, officials in Oregon, USA decided to blow up a rotting whale carcass. The whole thing went horribly wrong. Why do we bring this up? Well, this story can teach us 3 things about #coronavirus ⬇️

This is very welcome news. I have been to some great talks at skills matter over the years, they were good when they were running out of the crypt in St James Clerkenwell, and they were good when they were running out of the rather more modern CodeNode in Finsbury
I am very happy to share that @skillsmatter has found new owners in @Quad4Group, who aim to relaunch Skills Matter soon, to provide continuous learning for and with its community of technology creators and adopters. skillsmatter.com/

Don't like saying 'resource' to refer to people but not sure what else to use? 'Staff' is a noun (we're assigning staff to the project) a verb (we're staffing this with 3 people) and an adjective (is this project staffed?). There, now you're not talking about people like things.

Boston Dynamics Spot robot "in mass production" youtu.be/wlkCQXHEgjA

Interesting thread. Also, basing the fine on turnover rather tham profit could be catastrophic for low margin businesses.
I can't overstate the significance of this #GDPR British Airways fine (1.5% of worldwide turnover / £183m) for anyone in security, privacy or senior management. You've got to get security right, with appropriate levels for your organisation, else the fines can be career changing.

This week has witnessed yet another attack by anti-trans lobbyists towards an organisation showing support for trans people - this time @NSPCC was targeted 😞 I’ve been studying the techniques used by trans-hostile activists, and thought I’d share my findings here. Thread....

I'd add to this, machines can parse text and analyse it with Natural Language Processing & Understanding. That can lead to concept discovery, sentiment/tone analysis and potentially creepier things like Big 5 personality analysis
HassellInc: RT @redcrew: Who benefits when you have podcast transcripts? 1. People who are deaf, hard of hearing. 2. People working in quiet/noisy place. 3. People whose first language is different than yours. Added plus: search engines can index it, increases your audience…

Many but not all Siberian Forest cats produce less Fel D1 - the protein that cat allergy sufferers react to - in their saliva compared to other cats, making them hypoallergenic. All of them are incredibly fluffy.
