Is Labour going to become the second UK party in power in a row to support this idea, only to immediately be removed from office?
Al Carns suggests that he would be in favour of introducing a form of national service for Britain's youth. Do you agree with him or not?

The end of the album era and of the ascent of rap/hip hop as the dominant genre has turned popular music in a gigantic wasteland, compare any 2010s top-20 list to any random year in the 80s, 90s, or even 2000s and it's just sad to compare
2014 really was the fucking dark ages dawg

Yes, I'm well aware I'm a musical "boomer". I like rock music, I like music with real instruments generally, and I don't have a preference for rap music. I'm not especially fond of 2000s music honestly, pretty much anything from the 60s-90s I may like though.

This is true. People were very chill. You could get chicken nuggets shaped like dinosaurs. Folks would feed you peas on a little spoon while making airplane noises. You could even dump a whole bowl of spaghetti on your head if you wanted. Totally fine. Not sure what happened.
One of my favorite parts about the 90s is we just ate whatever food we wanted. Food was food. No one argued about what food was bad and what food was healthy. We just minded our business in general. At least that’s how I remember it

The ending here of going to a Blockbuster to rent DVDs to watch on your giant television is wildly unrealistic for 1999, the vast, vast majority of us were watching VHS tapes on tube TVs.
It's rare that AI video makes me feel any emotion. But these "nostalgiamaxxing videos" really do capture what it's like to grow up in the 90's Credit: homeforchristmasofficial

And yet some people will insist it’s a complete mystery as to why polling has consistently shown for the last six years that voters are dissatisfied with the economy
The U.S. Dollar has lost 30% of its purchasing power over the last six years, per NYT

A national popular vote with the same rules across all 50 states DC wouldn't theoretically be any more difficult to administer than any other election. I can't envision how a national popular vote of 50 1 separate elections with entirely different rules would work, though...
Why a national popular vote would be impossible to administer

Inflation is so high that it's erasing all wage gains. Inflation: 4.2% in May for the past year Wage growth: 3.4% in May for the past year. Americans are getting squeezed financially. This isn't just "bad vibes" about the economy. There is real pain, especially for middle-class and lower-income households. It's tough because so many basic items are seeing sizable price increases: gas, electricity, food, medical care.

Rs actually did try the independent strategy once in 2018, and it nearly worked. But to replicate Murkowski, you'd need to find a Democrat that can: 1) Vote with Rs 40% of the time 2) Break with Ds on many meaningful issues 3) Still win over a substantial number of Ds
Okay, but Democrats use this exact strategy effectively. It’s how they got Lisa Murkowski elected. Democratic primary voters just voted in Nebraska and Montana for the candidate who said they would drop out in favor of a centrist independent candidate. But GOPers won’t do it.

It's also genuinely easier to do this in a smaller state like Nebraska or Alaska than in CA. You have to win over millions of voters in CA, not hundreds of thousands.

This honestly just doesn’t work outside of abstract game theory. The Republican likely sees no real difference between the moderate and liberal. And any Dem that tries to peel off Rs might lose more Dems. 15-20% of Rs just don’t vote in lockouts too.
Carl is right here. Republicans really just don’t seem to understand how the California primary system allows them to vote in moderate and pragmatic Democrats. They keep voting for Republicans in primary as if they don’t understand how the system actually works.

Alaska is a weird example. If California had an incumbent Dem that voted R on 40% of issues and broke with their party often, maybe Rs would be willing to play ball. But they aren’t gonna see any real difference between a moderate or a liberal Dem generally.

Ultimately Republican voters want to vote for a Republican. Rs would rather have a sacrificial lamb than be theoretical kingmakers over which Dem wins.
